Oh no my second daughter has also been diagnosed with reflux!

My 3 year old daughter MInnie was diagnosed with reflux at 3 months after constant crying, vomitting blood etc. A magic wand of carobel and adult gavison (yes - but it was prescribed by the doc in A&E!) turned our screaming miserable baby into a smiling angel overnight. I gave up breastfeeding in a flash. It was worth it. 2 weeks ago we realised our 12 week old baby Stella also has reflux (to our dismay). The docs have only prescribed infant gaviscon which is franly not so good and I am continuing with breast feeding and topping up with formula and IG after each feed which seems to be the best way of administering it. Tomorrow we meet with a paediatrician so fingers crossed we will be able to dose Stella up more succesfully although I am determined to continue BF if I can. I wish I new about this site last time around!

Hi there
I have a 3 year old who had reflux and a 4 month old who also has reflux. Gavisgon is really hard to give when bfeeding but there are alternatives to ask your paed about. Also...without sounding preachy (I hope I dont!) be careful about topping up with formula as it may affect your milk supply in the long run. I was gutted when I realised my son had reflux too but at least 2nd time around you are armed with the reassuring knowledge that although it's tough and awful at the time, it does get better (something I didn't always know the forst time) Good luck.

Thanks for that - I know - the breastfeeding issue is a hard one - I am religiously breastfeeeding her first and she takes as much as she can before crying in pain. I can't express enough so fear that formula (I use HIPP organic) may be the final result. I just can't get her to breastfeed well enough without crying and being in pain. Her comfort seems the ultimate goal. Any tips for making BF work? cheers

PS I will ask the paed tommorrow and know I can up my milk supply if necessary so all is not lost as I would love to keep BF this time around.
