LittleRefluxers

my son is now 6 months and has sufferted with reflux since birth, he has sma staydown formula with a sachet of gaviscon infant added, this has helped but to be honest he is still sick often, He has gained weight well and luckily does not seem to be in any obvious discomfort, I have started him on solids some days he is ok but other days is sick again, he never brings up all the food/milk but always brings up some, he sleeps very well 12 hrs a night and does not ever projectile vomit, it just becomes a strain watching him throw up every day, although dosent bother him at all.

Has any one any thoughts on any more meds or is it something that will eventually stop, now he is eating solids it smells terrible when he is sick and must taste horrible for him, it puts me off feeding him solids as i think it must be horrible for him, some days he is worse than others and there is no obvious pattern to it although i do think hes worse on certain days and at the moment he seems to be teething although no teeth as yet, he sounds snuffly all the time and has very waxy ears, any feed back would be great.

Many thanks x

Hi Amanda

Just for info most of us use the form for topics like this. You may find you'll get a quicker response. I've never looked at the blog page.

Anyway as to your questions.

If lo doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, ie from acid burning then I doubt whether anything else could be prescribed. I think gaviscon is the only prescription for sickness. But it only holds down milk.

Another drug that is avaiable is domperdone which helps move the stomach contents quicker hence less to reflux but we've never been prescribed this so can't help on this one.

My lo takes 20mg of omeprazole which is the highest does for acid burning. But he still gets waxy ears and snuffles. As youve mentioned this i'm wondering if your lo is suffering with acid damage as the body defends itself by maxing more ear wax and mucous.

does you lo ever have green or greenish nappies with or without mucous?
Does your lo ever get irritable whist feeding or taking solids?

Perhaps if you copy this blog to the forum you'll get loads of helpful replies
