LittleRefluxers

Hello

I have a little boy who is now 4 1/2 months old and was diag with silent reflux at 8 weeks. He used to hold his breath while feeding. He was put on meds and did a lot better and then at 12 weeks he started stopping breathing, we know because we have one of the monitors with a pad that goes off after 20 seconds  (he holds his breath for up to 55 seconds) during the night. We were also told that, that was reflux related so his meds were upped.  We were advised to feed him at 17 weeks as "this would help".

This has proved to be nothing but a nightmare. We were given no advice about what to feed him or not to feed him and was just told to give him breakfast on day one, breakfast and lunch on day two and 3 meals on day three. We started this and he seems to be refluxing on everything that he has apart from parsnip.

I am so confused as he does not reflux on just milk so part of me thinks should i stop feeding him and keep him on milk as he does not need food yet. However i will need to feed him at some point so do i continue and try and find foods other than parsnip that he can eat. I think he might be teething so could that be causing it or adding to the problem??

I have watched him do it at night and he does not flintch, make any noise or move at all. he is just so still so part of me wounders is he in pain or not. A baby in pain crys no?

He is really happy during the day and is putting on weight and developing fine i just done know what to do for the best. Any advcie would be very greatfully received.

Hi Kimberley. Can I suggest you repost this in the main forum as not many people will see it here? A lot of us have found that early weaning makes reflux worse and that it is difficult to find foods that babies are ok with. Follow your instincts on this, there is no harm in backing off, letting things settle on milk and trying again nearer 6m old. We tried purees at about 20 weeks and it was a disaster, started again very slowly with baby led weaning at 6 months and it was much better. Teething often makes reflux worse too. Jen x
