Hi there!!
I am new to this site, its a shame i never found it before now! My son is 2 in July and was diagnosed with G.O.R.D at 6 months old. This was only after fighting and arguing with doctors that he was not suffering with colic, i knew this because i already had a 7 year old when thomas was born and know what colic is like from when he was little.
It took me taking him to a&e in another hospital for him to be finally diagnosed. By then he had been suffering for 6 months and had burnt all his tubes from his throat to his tummy, no wonder he screamed all day, as soon as he had a first bottle till he went to sleep at night!
Before this i was told he had a milk intolerance, put him on soya, then another one calle infinity i think, that had no lactose in, that was terrible, he was worse than ever and sweated the smell of the milk, poor little thing. I think he changed milk about 5 times in 6 months, went back onto sma gold and was fine!!!
We found that putting him in a baby car seat made him ALOT worse so we didnt go out in the car until he went into the next stage car seat at about 8/9 months old and he was fine in that because he was sat up and his belly wasnt being bent in half, if you know what i mean!!!
We also propped everything up, he never used his carrycot on his pram, he sat in the main seat so that we could have it at a relined position but not flat because lying him flat also made him worse. Also lying him on his tummy was a big no for a long time, hence he was a bit slower rolling over etc but by the time he was 14 months old he was doing everything he should have been including running around!!!
Foods i would advise babies/children with reflux to definately avoid is rice, anything with rice in!!, apples, yoghurts, ice cream, cream and definately full fat milk!! I know it is thought that its dairy intolerance that causes or irritates reflux but i have to disagree on my part because i think it is the full fat products, rich and creamy, that upset them, not all dairy products, thats my experiance anyway!!! I am not saying that is the case for everyone but i dont think it is the case for ALL reflux babies/children that thet are allergic to dairy.
Anyway, Thomas was put on 10mg omperazole and has progressed fantastically, although they are trying to reduce him because they think he should be growing out of it. This doesnt appear to be working at the mo!! As soon as i take him down half a mil, he becomes very naughty and wont eat very well, so we will have to wait and see!!
He may never grow out of it because he had IGUR when i was carrying him and so things didnt develop as they should and that part of him was one of them, I have to be thankful though that that is the only thing that seemed to not develop as it should, it could have been a lot worse, although i didnt think it at the time.
Well i think i have babbled enough to you all, i hope you found the above somewhat helpful!!

Comment by leanne tucker on June 21, 2011 at 10:05 P.s I forgot to add that Thomas went onto semi-skimmed milk at 1 and has been fine and has no problems on that growth wise or development wise. I was actually told it has more calcium in it than full fat milk just not the same amount of fat, obviously!! But at 28lb10oz in march, i dont think he is disadvantaged by having semi-skimmed, do you!?! x
