hi all...I've just come across littleRefluxers & i'm amazed at the amount of children that suffer with this problem!!
I'm a mother of two, my three old daughter (4 in Dec) manage to escape the clutches of reflux (thank-god!) however my 8mth old son was not so lucky!!! Here's his story.......
He was born just over three weeks prem, horrid labour (when are they ever nice!) using suction cup. He weighed a healthy 7lbs13Oz's, i was unable to breast feed so he was fed on SMA gold. 1st couple of days no prob then he started to projectile vomited after every feed, my hv suggested changing his milk to aptamil we did..no change. she then suggested weaning him (he was only just 4 mths) & prescribed gaviscon. This just made his sick thicker!
His weight gain slowed, at most gaining 1or 2 Oz's each mth, they referred us to the paediatrician & dietrision who suggested changing diet/milk. First we tryed lactose free..no change, then we tryed dairy free..no change. we put him on cow& gate 6mths plus formula & gave him the same dinners that we were having, he was prescribed Gaviscon, domperidone & ranitidine, these have seemed to calm his sickness but he still has days where he does not seem to keep anything down! Now my little man just seems to be going from bad to worse...he still has the occasional bouts of sickness, he's developed eczema all over his body & face which he is constantly scratching & waking in the night screaming in pain ( night-terrors) he has got a constantly suffering with chest infections, coughing/wheezing & although he's not lost any weight he's not gaining any either!! My paediatrician has been little help, we've only seen him twice & my appoints keep getting pushed back!!! In desparation we went to our GP who has written a letter to the paediatrician to get the appoint moved forward as she believes my son is suffering from allergy related eczema..to milk protein? shes prescribed nutramigen formula so we are now giving it a go, ill let you all know how he gets on...fingers crossed!!
(still waiting for an appointment from the paediatrcian)
do you know it really helps to write things down...thanx for listening ;o)
