LittleRefluxers

Just to update on whats going on with us.
Rory is now 13 months old, still on dairy free diet, still on omeprazole and domperidone. He is doing so much better but we're still not there completely. He still has trouble swallowing very thick or lumpy food and is still not eating many finger foods. We are also finding that if he laughs (which is actually does now!!!) that it gives him hiccups(?) and if he laughs too much he seems to choke like he used to do ALL the time. very strange has anyone else experienced anything like this is babies rory's age?

Things are going nicely on these meds so i have yet to book him in for the swallowing/ultrasound things. Im secretly hoping if i leave it long enough i wont have to put him through it, it would also mean taking him off all his meds for 3/4 days before and i dont know if i could handle that!

he's still getting lots and lots of ear infections and broncilitus, still havent been referred for this yet though, which i think needs doing. he has been crawling since 7 months and cruising since 9 months and he's still not walking - he seems off balance alot and quite clumsy which im putting down to the ear infections as your inner ear controls your balance, he'll get there soon!

we have good nights - where he wakes from habit around 4 times and goes back to sleep after 5/10 mins, and we have bad nights - which are like they used to be, up all night screaming in pain, throwing himself around etc.

Rory is such a cute and lovely boy, it makes me sad that i just havent enjoyed the first year of his life and nor has he, i feel like ive missed out as i just loved every second from the moment my first was born and i really cherished it. with rory i just cant wait til he's older and in full health and my fingers are crossed that he'll be able to eat whatever he likes soon!

I hope everyone is doing well

Hi Jena

Glad to hear Rory is doing better now he's on the medications. Here's hoping he continues to improve and that he won't need to have the swallowing/ultrasound tests done. I know what you mean about stopping the meds, it's a scary prospect. Daniel is much better on them but I think the doses need changing, he has been on the same dose for the last three months. I'm considering going private to get a second opinion as I think we have exhausted the limits of what the NHS is prepared to do in terms of helping him, because he is gaining weight ok they're not that interested, just paying lip service to me.

It's sad that you haven't enjoyed the first year of his life, I feel much the same about Daniel. If it wasn't for the reflux we would both be enjoying life so much more. I was looking back at Adam's old baby photos the other day and I've so many happy memories of his babyhood but when I look back at Daniel's babyhood all I will remember is the constant screaming, vomiting, lack of sleep and total exhaustion. I'm just waiting for that magical day when he's over it.

Take care.
