Hi Yvette.
I hope you and little one are well tonight.
Im not sure what to write back now...
In reply to your comments do you wake her, Yes I always think you should wake a baby if they are due a feed... I have worked as a nanny and really believe in routines, even when they are ill, it really helps to figure out whats wrong when they start screaming...
Is Lotti your first? Is she still vomiting lots, are you breastfeeding or bottle, If you are bottle feeding what milk are you using. Our health visitor recommended cow & gate comfort, cant really say its made much difference, but who knows... Have you tried cranial osteopathy, again who knows if it works... but its all worth trying..
Isabelle never vomited huge amounts but just screamed constantly, when she was admitted to hospital all it said her her charts was inconsoleble. It was very hard at times, as Ive been a nanny I could nt wait to have my own, but I feel so sad when she is bad because Isabelle is so unhappy and in alot of pain and there is nothing i can do to help her. Anyway she is a lot better than she was, she still has bad days, but we just have to get on with it. I have given up going to the docs and seeing the health visitor, they are no help what so ever. We had a check up with the consultant the other week, he increased her dose of medication and said to keep her on it until she starts solids. She is putting on so much weight, she loves eating even though it causes her so much pain, i think she is like me, she likes to comfort eat...!!
She is still sick if she lies down flat, we have to keep her upright all the time, we have raised her mattress and changing mat, she has a tummy tub bath tub, dont know if you have seen them, its a big bucket the baby sits upright in, its brilliant she sits in it by herself now, We love ours, well worth it...
I find it hard when friends and relatives come to visit an they want to cradle her like a baby or jig her up and down but she hates and it just makes her worse. She has to sit straight upright..
We have just started rythmn time on tuesdays at St Peters church, its a really good class, Izzy looked like a little scared rabbit, but I enjoyed it....
We start at water babies swim class on sunday, it is at springfield school in Crewe, its in a hydratherapy pool. We have taken her to crewe and nantwich baths before, not too cold if you go in the childrens pools, but check before you go because they sometimes have classes on, so you have to use the normal pool, not as warm Izzy hated it when we had to go in.
If you want to meet up and have a chat, my number is 01270760463.
Good luck with Lotti hope she gets better.
Hope to see you soon

Hallo
Thanks for the reply! All well so far today and the Gaviscon seems to be working - still throwing up but a lot less and a lot less screaming. Now I'm paranoid about her having too much but she had a breast feed at her last feed (without medication) and she has thrown lots of it back - just about to give her her last feed of the night and contemplating whether to use it or not - dr said every feed, but packet says no more than 6 in 24 hours!!

Really lucky with Lotti and her routine, she's an angel - I'm frantically trying not to turn into paranoid mother (yes she's my first) but its a pretty worrying experience, this baby rearing!! We use Aptamil formula as well as breast milk, now starting to wonder about lactose intolerance but will stick with Gaviscon for now.

Interested in all things natural - Lotti loves massage (like her mum) and am interested in cranial osteopathy - where did you go?

Seen the tummy tubs but think we are alright with our bath support - def going to get a wedge tho for change mat and moses. Her dad struggles more with the changing etc so she gets more "wroggled" about and therefore throws up even more - hopefully the wedge should help them both!

Must be tough with the rellies, i'm afraid I just tell mine before they start.

Tell me more about rhythm class - is Izzy older than Lotti (9weeks) ? She's very sociable so she would probably enjoy it. Had a look at the water babies site - looks excellent so may sign up for that - not that I want you to think that I'm trailing round after you and all your activities but you seem very organised !

I'd love to meet and have a coffee/chat, I'll give you a buzz in next couple of days or alternatively call me 01477 500832/07803 613692. Otherwise may see you Sunday if they still have space..

Talk soon, thanks for all the tips!

Hi
Got your "cheshire" post. I had real problems with Gaviscon for my son. Although it did help a lot with the vomiting he got quite constipated, well it is a thickener and it definitely thickened the feed all the way through!

I originally noticed reflux problems at about 7 weeks and gave Gaviscon after each breastfeed (very difficult when everything coming up) but after 3 days he was inconsolable. I stopped it for around 3 days then used it at night only which helped with his night reflux but not the daytime vomiting.

If it is constipation some people use dilute fresh orange juice as recommended by HV's for general constipation or infant lactulose (a laxative) but I didnt want to fill him up with "empty fluids" or give other medicine unless essential.

After about 3 weeks of a sachet a night things improved but then at 19 weeks he began to refuse feeds and we were referred, saw a consultant and tried Ranitidine which was very easy for him to take and stopped most of the vomiting/symptoms. It stops the production of stomach acid (partially I believe) and this can potentially leave him open to more chance of stomach upsets as stomach acid kills a lot of the bugs that get eaten/swallowed. I also believe it can interfere with the absorption of calcium so just like any medicine has potential side effects as well as benefits.

When my little chap was just pukey it was really frustrating but I wouldn't have wanted him on anything more than Gaviscon. When he was refusing to feed that was a diferent matter.

Some top tips I found out were:
NO changing nappies for around 1/2 hr after feeds even then or if forced to before avoid hauling legs into the air- pressure on tummy= definite vomit.
When burping cup bib in hand and use as "bowl" to catch milk. Muslin squares good too if folded up.
Dummy very useful to keep milk down (know whole dummy thing a personel thing tho) Apparently also promotes saliva which can neatralise some of the acids.
Muslim squares placed under head in pram/cot- fewer sheet changes.
Avoiding screaming sessions if possible= vomit. (chance would be a fine thing tho!

Anyway you are probably doing all this already.

Have you tried a hypoallergenic formula or going dairy free for the breast feeds?- some people swear by it.

We should arrange a "Cheshire" meet up perhaps.

Anyway rambling now, hope some of that vaguely helpful.

Davidsmum
