Hello everyone,
I am so glad to have found this site. My HV thinks that my daughter may have silent reflux after she tried to feed her today. I say try as she was not able to even though she was starving. She arranged for me to see the doc tomorrow to get her some meication.
My daughter had severe oral thrush when she was 5 weekes old and it took 3 weeks to clear up. I thought that her poor feeding was down to the thrush and that she had developed poor feeding habits. Thought that she would always be a rubbish feeder and that was that! I would always try to be at home when she needed feeding as it looks like she is experiencing the worse pain ever. She will then drink 7 oz bottle and still want more once she gets going. It is so hard to feed her and I have become so anxious about it. It is great to hear what everone else is going through and to know that I am not a rubbish mother! Thanks x

Hi
Yesterday was quite helpful - I wasn't fobbed off for a start! Paed has prescribed more gaviscon with rantidine and domperidone. Have you used these - (you may have already said - if so sorry - too much stress!) - did they help at all? She is having a blood test today to test for cows milk allergy and then seeing the Paed again in two weeks and doing a barium swallow. Finally getting somewhere!
Fraya now hates all her solids and turns her head and moans until I take them away. If she does eat she pukes it all back up when I am feeding her. Don't know what to do! How is your daughter?

Hi
Thanks for your reply to one of my discussions. So far today (bearing in mind it is nearly 4pm) Fraya has only eaten 9 ounces and that amount has been a big struggle. She has always been hard to feed anyway but never this bad and this appears to have been in the last few days since starting this medication. What milk does Emily have? Fraya has Pepti and I think she hates the taste of this anyway so that doesn't help in her desire to eat.
How many solid meals does Emily have? Does she eat much of her solids. Fraya hates all of her solids now and turns her head and moans (or is sick). How many ounces does Emily have a day (not including what you add to her solids)? I try and feed Fraya every 3 hours (not that she asks for food ever and if were up to her she would never eat!) In answer to your question - I don't have to hold Fraya upright much as she likes to lie down or sit up herself, go on bouncer, sit in her ring etc so I am lucky in that respect. She is very happy in her pram/car seat aswell. She has 3 naps a day and would rather sleep than eat. In fact, the only real problems I have is with feeding and vomiting.

Hi Emma,
Emily has eaten like this today:
8,30 - 3oz
11.30 - half an oz
2pm- 30z
5pm - 30Z
7pm - 8oz
17 oz total SMA LF

plus small portio of apple12noon and small portion of carrot puree5pm

Emily seems starving and will try the milk and scream. She eats the solids but has started back arching after. Am worried about her nolonger liking them if she assosciates them with pain.

I hope that this helps

Hi
Thanks for your message - in the end yesterday Fraya ate 22 ounces (but we always feed her at 11pm to make up her ounces). She will eat 5 ounces at that feed (asleep) and never vomits. Like Emily, Fraya eats welll on her feed before bed, eating 6/7 ounces quite happily. Since having the gaviscon, Fraya's poos have become a big round lump, instead of a squidy mess which was what is was like on Pepti before the gaviscon so I presume that this is the effect of the gaviscon. If she is needing to poo then that would explain why she is hardly hungry. Just another problem to consider!
How long do you persist with each feed, trying to feed Emily? I keep trying for a few attempts (for sometimes up to an hour but never longer). Obviously I don't ever force it on her. Like you, I am worried that Fraya associates food with feeling ill and vomiting.

Hi Miranda
Thanks for your message and comment about Fraya - yes I am very proud of her, she is generally very happy and smiley all of the time and if only the feeding was sorted out she would be perfect! Unfortunately the feeding is a nightmare everyday. She ate 4 ounces this morning and then vomited it up an hour later after I gave her a bath, then she ate a bit of banana with milk and then 3oz (which took about an hour!) and so she has hardly eaten. Not that she cares of course! I do resent feeding her and dread it and when people see me feed her I feel like they are thinking "you are doing it wrong". I try not to be stressed when I feed her but it can be so infuriating. Do you use Facebook/email as it is easier to chat that way I think.
Hope to hear from you soon (you are helping to keep me sane!)

Hi.
I found you (or who I thought was you on Facebook) and messaged you - did you get it?
Fraya has only eaten 8 ounces so far today! She smacks the bottle away and moans until you start playing with her. My husband is doing her last feed now as I have had enough for today! It is so tiring! Nearly all day is spent feeding (or refeeding when she vomits). We have a permenant plastic sheet and bucket down in our dining room and her bedroom to catch the vomit. The vomit has got less since the medication but then again she is eating so much less though!
How old is Emily and how much does she weight? Fraya is 26 weeks on Thursday and weighs 13lb 13oz. She was 6lb 3oz when she was born.
One of my fears is that Fraya will hate food when she is a toddler and refuse everything. Stress! :(

Hi Miranda.
My son hates his milk. He only has about 15oz a day. He is 6 months next Monday and I started him on solids when he was 17 weeks. Luckily he loves his solids too and is now on 3 meals a day!! I was getting really stressed about the amount of milk he was having. I spoke to the health visitor and she said that 18oz was what we should aim for, and that giving milk in other ways, in food etc can top the amount up. That made me feel much better and I have relaxed a lot more now. It is so hard when you want your baby to eat well and drink all their milk and they won't!! My son only has 3 bottles a day now and will have about 5 oz each time. He hates seeing the bottle coming. I changed bottles a while ago and that did help a bit.
Anyway, just thought I would share this with you. Hope everything is going well with your little one.
Katie

Hi Miranda.

Glad Emily is doing well. I just concentrate on solids too - it's so much better!!! My son was born on 23rd December, 3 days early, so we had an early Christmas present!! We got out of hospital on Christmas Day, so it was all a bit mad!!!
Hope you're having a good day today.
