My story so far

Hi all,

Well im a first time mum to gorgeous baby Joshua he is 9 weeks at the mo and was diagnosed with reflux when he was 4 weeks old. Reading some other peoples stories i think im quite lucky as the doctor diagnosed it straight away (no question about me just being hysterical or anything). He was screaming trhough his feeds and not knowing what was causing it was pretty scary for me being a 1st time mum and not knowing anything about reflux!! He was prescribed ranitidine which… Continue

Hi Michelle
Thanks for your comment, I havn't been on the website recently so it was nice to hear from someone, Josh's piccies are lovely, but it sounds like you have been having a tough time, please be reassured, that it is nothing you are doing, you mention that you are a first time mum, I am a third time mum and toby has had me in pieces from all his crying, I too have had times when I havn't wanted to go out with him, as trying to cope with his crying and vomiting all seemed a bit much. I think Toby has been sick over all my friends and thier houses, shop floors, you name it Toby has been sick there, I know it is hard but you just have to ignore anyone that stares or make comments as you are his Mum and you know what is best for him. As for his feeds 4oz seems about right for a 10lb baby and they are all different, as along as he is gaining weight, then he is getting enough milk, most health proffessional I have come across, seem to think that small and often for feeds is the answer for babys with reflux anyway. I had the oppsiote problem with Toby he always wanted big feeds as he throw most of them up afterwards, and would then cry as he was hungry. Toby is on Ranitidine as well which seems to work ok, but we still have times when he crys a lot, especially when feeding him soilds. we are back to the consultant next week so we will have to see what she says. I am more than happy to chat if you want to get in touch, it is always nice to talk to someone who understands what it is like, Toby loves being in his buggy and being out so a lot of friends have never seen him when he is crying and distressed, so I am sure they wonder what I am going on about sometimes!
Take care
Emma
