Son back on reflux meds...

HII have posted on here before about my son, now 17m.He was diagnosed with silent reflux at 11 weeks; put onto infant gaviscon and ranitidine. Later onto Omperazole mups as ranitidine stopped working. We were able to get him off all meds by 15months; BUT after a month without meds all his reflux symptoms seem to be coming back and on doctors/ paed  advice he is back on meds but on a lower dose. My concern is that he appears onwell constantly. He suffers with milk protein allergy, recurrent…See More

Hello
That must be so frustrating. Both of my children had reflux and neither lost weight - in fact they were fast to gain it as milk eased the pain so they were constant feeders. I found this website so great - just to know others are/have been there and to know I wasn't going mad. I was luck 2nd time around and had a great GP but I did have to ask for a second opinion re a paed and go to a specialist as he brushed us off but we KNEW there was something wrong. New babies are tiring at the best of times but reflux can make everything seem much harder. I hope he continues to improve and you get some support from your doctor. And don't forget to look after yourself (at the risk of sounding like a nag!)! Take care

There is a whole range to reflux though and you'll probably find some days/weeks/months better than others. Surgery is a major last resort and there's LOADS they can do beforehand. Don;t worry! Your son has you looking after him and standing up for him so that's the best start. It's a horrible illness to have as there's no cure but it can be managed - just takes time to get it right sometimes. Good luck. Feel free to stay in touch! Kindest
