Hi,
Does anyone else out there feel completely exhausted with the lack of sleep? After 3 and a half years i should be used to these nights but i still get so tired. My youngest is having really bad nights at the moment and i think the repeated coughs/colds are setting the reflux off even more. some nights he wakes 3 or 4 times an hour which over the night is dozens of wakes! Combined with our 3 year old who also night wakes with reflux, we are often up and down all night. I feel quite…

Hi,
I have 2 boys - a 3 year old and 1 year old. Both have reflux - our 3 year old still hasn't grown out of it. They have suffered a lot with the pain and both find it very hard to sleep at night which is exhausting for all. Our eldest suffered with reflux so badly he developed a food and drink aversion and we take him to a clinic at Great Ormond Street. Our youngest has reflux as well as a dairy allergy making his feeding quite complicated.
Would be good to hear from other…

My son has been on meds now since he was 51/2 months, hes 71/2 months now. Hes on domperidome and losec mumps tablets. So far so good although we do have to increase his dose as he puts on weight. I'm so over protective of him as i feel so guilty for his months of pain, i wish i was more vocal with my gp. You trust these people together with health visitors, but they are useless, and don't know where they get their micky mouse qualifiations from! Thank god i'm seeing a very good ped'tion at out local private hospital. To tell u the truth i try not to focus so much on te problem now, in fact i thik about how bad things were and how better (even if its just a little) things are now. My son is happy, smiles and eats, thats all that matters to me! We have relatives who say 'oh he won't go to anyone but his mummy or daddy' that really pi55es me off as hes had a bad experice and still feels uncomfortable after a feed sometimes, so hes bound to be clingy to me and my husband! People who have never experienced this have no idea what its like for you and the child!
What meds are u 2 on? Have u or seen an impr with meds? I find giving water water to my son after solid feed (in a beaker) really helps him burp. Now he sits up and tends to burp by himselp and sometimes reflux's that does not bother him or me as its better then silent reflux.
Our consultant had told us that all our children are likely to have reflux so I guess we were prepared with Lauren and I recognised the symptoms straightaway. Wasn't prepared for the whole dairy thing though, but I am looking at the positive of losing weight quicker, but obviously am concerned that I need to keep the calories coming in for my milk supply.
You sound in a worse situation with your eldest still suffering and the dairy intolerence too. I really feel for everyone who has to go through this reflux nightmare. I would just love to experience a 'normal' baby for just a few days as I reckon it must be easy to bring up 2, 3, 4, 5 kids if they are all completely healthy!! I just find the crying and general unsettled baby so exhausting.
My husband is already keen for number 3 and 4, but at the moment every day is a struggle and I hate wishing time away - it is so sad.
Thanks for your help, will be buying up lots of your snack ideas tmw - I can't wait!
Another question re dairy free. Did your son ever get bright green poo as a result of dairy free? I am not sure what has caused change in colour and wondered if it was related?
Thanks
Thanks for your message, have you settled into the area, Wokingham is a great place for families we have been here for a few years now. I was interested to hear that your youngest has a dairy allergy as Toby has had 2 reactions to food in the last week, we are not sure exactly what but I am think it might be chesse, he also has eczema on his face and head and the Health vistor has sugested that he would be better diary free, I have kept him Diary free for 2 days apart from the milk and his face does seem slightly better, to be honset the whole weaning process is not great, I am very nervous now as well about him having a severe reaction. It would be nice to get a good local group going.
lack of sleep is a nightmare, I can sympathise!!! if you have done 3 years of it, hats off to you!
I am thinking I might have to supplement with 1 formula and wondered if you could recommend a formula which I should get from GP.
Many thanks
Michelle
Thanks so much for your message and your support.
Alexandra is having a terrible day today, up to the point when she's refusing feeds and goes hysterical the second we put the teat in her mouth when she's obviously hungry. The pain is increasing but the aversion towards the bottle is worse than ever.
Having doubled the dose of Omeprazole- she's on the maximun dose for her weight -doesn't seem to be working ad I'm beginning to fear that nothing will anyway.
I've contacted the consultant on call from the hospital and I'm waiting for him to ring back but we are not very hopeful as before we left hospital they sort of said there wasn't much more they could do. They all kept happily telling us that she would eventually grow out of it but, how will we manage until that happens? (That is,if it does)
Can you give me any tips about how to help my daughter with her aversion? Obviously you've gone through it with your 3 year old and hopefully your experience will help us.
I'm feeling so bad. I went to the GP today, asking for help. They have prescribed some medication to treat me for anxiety and depression, see if at least I can get rid of this overwhelming feeling of fear that is constantly there, and I can hopefully help my daughter better. I came back from the surgery only to find my husband in tears as he'd tried to feed Alexandra and she had had an extremely bad reaction to it, screaming and crying as horribly as when we had to take her into hospital.
What deeply upset me is that, even in hospital, all those doctors who hadn't witnessed my baby's agony where treating us as if we were exagerating and overworrying and refused to carry out more investigations until our baby gets worse again.
We really don't know what to do anymore. Our confidence are parents is slowly disappearing. We have tried so many different things and approaches, and nothing seems to work for our little one.
Sorry to sound so down but we are at the end of our tether.
Looking forward to hearing from you
Helena X
Lauren had her immunisations today and not sure if a coincidence but has refused to eat anything since. Every time i put her to breast she screams. So frustrating.
