Steph

I can't believe Sophie is 1 next month!!!

Hi everyone,

Nearly a year on and so much has changed! (I guess i am one of the lucky ones). Her first few months were pretty awful for all of us and i was literally at the end of my WITS END. I had no support from my GP and minimal from my HV. My family and friends didnt know how to help and really didnt understand Reflux as there is little awareness out there. I got a diagnosis from going to A&E and then i found this wonderful website, and its been onwards and upwards from there. I cannot… Continue

Hi steph! Thanks for your nice comments! Sometimes things are so wearing.. well we've taken the boys out to a park today and i put logan in the buggy sitting up(it's a pramette and was hoping he'd lay down in it for awhile) but whatever is best for him is a bonus i guess! Was successful but had a bad morning with him before hand and has been quite unsettled today, think he's not doing so well on the gaviscon as he seems to be arching backwards again so have started the ranitadine they first prescribed at the docs! How's your LO doing? jo x

Hi Steph

Daniel saw Dr Power at the RBH in February (who is okay) and was prescribed Omeprazole and Domperidone which have been the best drugs at controlling his reflux symptoms so far, particularly the Omeprazole. He had tried Infant Gaviscon and Ranitidine prior to that without any effect. If you feel that Sophie needs to be seen by a paediatrician then my advice would be to keep pushing the GP. I went four times before I got referred as they kept trying to fob me off as did the HVs. I can understand your concerns about giving Sophie drugs because of the side effects as I felt the same with Daniel but I knew he was suffering and I also knew that untreated reflux can cause serious health complications so I figured it was better for him to have his symptoms controlled with the medication than to develop any secondary complications associated with his reflux. Trust your own instincts, if you feel Sophie needs to see a paediatrician then push for a referral. Daniel was only started on these drugs at 7 months old and is much better than he was. If you can afford to go private then give this consideration also as the waiting times can be very long on the NHS, up to 2-3 months, particularly if Sophie's weight gain is okay as they take it even less seriously. Take care and keep us posted on Sophie's progress.

Been very busy, so not got chance to get on computer much! Had a bad weekend with Sophie and got an appointment to see Doc today. Gonna take her in at feed time, as Dr thinks she just has colic, we will see what he thinks when she screams at him and throws up! Also seeing HV today, hopefully will get a little further with her, at least she wants to help! Don't know about you but a bit fed up of well meaning people who say "all babies cry" and "she will grow out of it" and "perhaps she just wants mummy's attention" Then why oh why does she cry when I pick her up and for ages afterwards? Hope you have got somewhere with the omeprazloe. When you get chance let me know how you are doing x

Hi steph sorry not got back to you sooner. Hope you are o.k Hows little one? We have had trouble getting hold of the omeprazloe so we have to wait a week, so that will be fun when we have to give it to her.

Sorry to hear things are not going too well. I know how your feeking too well. Your very lucky to have your mum, mine is not around as we dont get along. But my mother in law is brilliant. She often has my eldest for me. We went back to the assesment unit on tuesday, what a load of rubbish. Doctor has given me omeprazloe to try, so lets see how she gets on with that, Iv had a couple of rubbish days with her, Yesterday was a good day, but I dont get too many of them. Get some rest, and mail me soon.
