Hi my name is Rachel i have a little boy called Theo who suffers with reflux, wich started when he was born but got worse at 5 mths when i put him on a bottle, for health reasons i could no longer breast feed. The fact your little girl has improved with taking gaviscon is a good sign, what milk is she on? after all this time trying loads off different milk powders including prescription ones, i have found cow & gate comfort the best, his sickness has reduced by half. Try not too get too stressed i know the crying cuts to the core but you need too keep on at the doctors if you are not happy. Theo is under a specialist now and has been for 4 months now and they are now doing as many tests too try to find out the root off his problem, so dont ever feel alone and its good too talk. Hi my names Jo and Im mum to Ella who's four months old. We knew something was wrong since she was 3 weeks old but we're told it was just colic. Tried infracol, colief etc with little effect and continued to look for answers as I was convinced this wasnt the same as the colic id seen with my other children. Ella cried during and after breastfeeds and has been slow to gain weight, she arches her back and is really difficult to hold and appeared in so much pain. Eventually I found info on 'silent' reflux and couldnt believe how exactly the symptoms described what Ella presented with. Armed with this info I went to the GPs for the sixth time and broke down begging that they give her something to ease the discomfort. We have started gaviscon and I am hoping it will help, have also started to wean a week ago so fingers crossed. I savour every momernt that we have when shes pain free and take as much help as i can get.
sometimes you do feel very isolated but keep strong it will get better, its great to have somewhere to talk with others who really understand the frustration and desperation that comes with reflux.

Thank you for getting back to me. Your advice is much appreciated. Things have improved as Marcus is now taking Gaviscon in every feed. I also give him rice in his feed once in the morning and last thing at night. This thickens his feeds and settles his tummy. Stay in touch xxx

Hallo
Thank you for the response - it's much appreciated. It's v interesting to hear that David showed the same symptons on Gaviscon - I've noticed the difference with nappies def!

Lotti has settled down now but has consequently missed a feed as she got herself frantic and refused to take it. Then I become paranoid that she hasn't had enough fluid! But she's just had a last bottle and settled back to sleep, bless her.

I'm finding the breast feeding with reflux v v frustrating _ try to feed her in as upright a position as possible which hurts my back, arms etc and she's also unhappy with the new positioning. Makes little difference anyway as she chucks it back just as much as she throws up formula.

I've been thinking about the lactose intolerance btu having read up about it, it's supposedly really rare? Did David have any tests for it?

Would be good to have a Cheshire meet, there are 2 of us in Sandbach, unsure if the others would be willing to trek over this way?

Well, I guess we will see how the rest of the weekend goes and book her in for a review appt next week.

Thanks again - hope to meet soon

Yvette
