Fellow LittleRefluxers, my daughter was diagnosed with GERD at six weeks of age and we have since been under close monitoring by the gastro-paed, dietician and speech&language therapist. To compund matters, Shaan had a very floppy larynx which compunded her reflux.
We were seeing positive improvements via weight gain but Shaan suffers from all the symptons i.e. cryful stints, arching back, coughs, gagging and refusal to eat! we are fearful that her reflux is coming back with vengence and are at wits end to draw on support. It has been difficult to explain her challenges to family and friends who, try as they may, cannot understand the challenges Shaan and parents face.

In search of help we have come across this site and the rest as they say is in the present!

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Mani
Sounds like your in dia straights. It's almost impossible to explain the condition to friends and loved ones isn't it. I think this is one aspect of my sons condition that frustrates me the most. My nother in law is convinced that it will just get better in a few weeks, and there's nothing a bit of gripe water wont sort out!!!! AAARRRGGGHHH!
I dont know about you but im always aware that im 'moaning' about reflux all the time, but it's difficult not to, we live with it 24 hours a day. I only joined the site recently, it's so good to know that there are other people out there who can offer support.
I hope Shaan's symptoms improve soon, are you going back to the paeds specialist?
Keep in touch

Hi Mani
welcome. I know exactly how you feel and am sure everyone on this site does too. I too found it difficult to get anyone to understand and simply felt misunderstood, even by those closest to me (husband, mum). Let's not even talk about those not that close. I felt all i did was moan about his vomitting and the weight and i even bored myself at times. I love this site as it enables me to offload without having to moan to my husband who i think has had enough of listening. Here i sit for a few minues and have a read or a write and i feel instantly better. Knowing that i am not alone. take care, Fran

Hi Mani

I live in Brook Green - between Shepherds Bush and Hammersmith. I too hope you get some comfort from this sight. Francesca summed my situation up well - I too feel like everyone is bored of me moaning about reflux - people just think I am making it up I think. Anyway, at least you can log on and get some support. Hope things get better for you soon. How old is your little one? You sound like you are having a tough time. I feel quite lucky that both my childrens symptoms have not been so bad compared to some of stories on here.

Keep in touch

Hi
I wanted to exclusively breastfeed for 6 months as is now advised but i started weaning Max at 5 months. mainly because he was possetting so much and the milk just wasn't staying down and he was beginning to lose weight. they told me (they being my mother in law) that the reason he was possetting so much and throwing up was that he was so hungry he was drinking too much milk. Rubbish! He now eats and drinks and he is still refluxy. Some days are good some days are hellish. However, i have found that making my diet very much meat, fish, veg and fruit (no dairy, no wheat / gluten) has helped IMMENSELY. I now have a life and can take him out and about. Yes he vomits every now and again, yes he possets but it is all manageable. Before it was not possible to leave the house. I no longer drink tea , alcohol, coffee as these upset his reflux, i no longer do any butter, goats milk, anything with soya etc etc (and you have to read every label as milk protein is in everything). i bought some special K without reading the label. They evidently spray the ceral with dry milk because it is in there! i have not managed to get Max to take his hypo allergenic so for now i keep breast feeding
Keep in touch. Love to all

Hi Mani
Hope you and Shaan are doing ok. Thank you for your kind comments. Rohan seems to be a bit more settled on the omeprazole, it's early days but we can live in hope.
