My lo is 20 weeks old and was diagnosed when he was about 8 weeks I think. He has silent reflux which is where the acid comes up and down the gullet but he doesn't vomit. He has been on ranitadine and domperidone and pepti-junior milk but has recently come off the medicines. I have started weaning him early. He is much much better now and I can actually start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Despite it all he is such a cheeky cheerful little boy. He still has bad days but they seem to be getting further and further apart. It sounds like your lo has been suffering for a much longer time. Would love to chat. x
Good to hear from you and glad that things are have settled a little for your son. We are seeing the consultant tomorrow and hoping to start on domperidone, aswell as the ranitidine and gaviscon. At the moment, we are seeing a physio as Dec is still not sitting up and they also think he may have some sensory issues. We are not sure what the consultant thinks yet though and are unsure if it is related to him being prem, or to his reflux. We did think heis reflux was ok for a long time, but now the speech therapist has pointed out that it isn't (saw her due to him not tolerating lumps and being sick with food a lot) we look back and think perhaps we should have pushed for more treatment. The beauty of hindsight! To be honest, I think that his development issues have taken priority at the most recent cons appts and only now are we starting to think it might be a chicken and egg scenario. Hopefully tomorrow will prove successful. By the way, your little chap looks gorgeous and really smiley - you must be so proud of him!
Will be in touch again soon
Thanks for comments. How did you get on at the consultants. Things have taken a step back for Joel unfortunately. He has recently started throwing up all his milk feeds, thought he had a tummy bug at first but he is once again screaming in pain at feed time, taking 1 or 2 ounces and is generally struggling with milk. It hurts him again to bring his wind up and I think he is once again frightened of his bottle therefore we have took the decision to start his medication again and feed little and often. I knew it was coming for a while to be honest since he stopped the medicines but didn't want to accept that he may have this problem for a while longer yet. I do have a tendency to listen to others when they say its about time he was sleeping through and why does he cry a lot etc and I know I shouldn't as this isn't about me its about him. I know its hard for other people to understand unless they have been there. Sorry for ranting on and on. I hope Dec is ok and you have sorted him with the medicine. It certainly does help although it does take some time to work so stick with it. Hope to hear from you soon. x
Good to hear from you, but sorry that Joel isn't doing so good at the mo. I know exactly what you mean about people not understanding! The visit to the cons was quite hard really. Declan's meds were changed and he stopped ranitidine altogether and started him on omeprazole for a 2 week trial. If not improvement to add in domperidone. He has now been on it for 9 days and not much improvement so far, but not sure how long it takes to work? We were pleased about the change in meds, but he also took bloods for chromosome and metabolic testing and has referred for an MRI scan as he feels Dec is significantly developmentally delayed. His still not sitting fully independently and justs wants to roll round constantly. Mind you he is a particularly good roller-must be all the practise! He is also not waving, or pointing and is still quite babyish, if that makes sense. We weren't too worried about his development initially due to him being prem, but are not a lot more concerned and keen to help him as much as we can. Unfortunately, he is also poorly again, so that is holding him back more. All in all not a good week really!
Now I have to say sorry for ranting on to you! I hope to hear back from you soon and do hope that Joel settles again soon.
Finally got his app through for dec 12, but his sleeping has improved slightly also using the wedges etc I purchased to aid his sleep. I still feel very deprived of sleep though, along with all the other mums out there.
Im so sorry Dec has been so unwell, he seems to get everything and the poor little might has to try and fight it all along with his reflux. Are they doing the MRI asap as its seems to me now that you should be seen and not let this go on and on. They ( gp. cons etc ) just dont seem to speed things up at the early stages. Joy at what age did Dec get dia with his reflux. After reading some of the new members and I can def see that Callum is far from the worst case but glad ive pushed it for his app. I hope things will improve for you all soon and will let you know how I get on take care gail x
