Hi Thanks for your message. Good to hear that Stella is doing well. Fraya is now like a different baby to how she was this time last year. At 13 months old she had a videofloroscopy done to see how she swallowed different types of food (mainly…

Hi Emma, I was cruising this site again and wondered how you were. What happened with Freya? Stella is at last so much better. Did not turn a corner until about 19 months old. She is now nearly two and the last three months have been totally…

Hi Emma
welcome!
I hope you don't mind me saying this but it does sort of sound as though your little girl might be milk protein intolerant. A lot of reflux babies are and i seethat she is still on normal cow's milk formula. have you considered one of the hypo-alergenic ones? GPs are not always happy to prescribe these but worth trying even without the GP's go-ahead.
max was given NUTRAMIGEN, a lot of mums here use NEOCATE. There are others too . worth a try no?

Hi Emma, I lived in Canterbury when I had my first baby too and I must say they were useless. Which surgery are you with? I would insist on a second opinion from a paedatritian. You have a right, don't be scared to ask. Try pear, sweet potato and butternut squash to start with and if the lactose free milk is not helping then ask them to put her on pepti junior or is she on this already? If you have trouble getting her to take this then you can add a couple of drops of vanilla extract (not flavouring) or pure pear juice by heinze. I live in Ashford and would be happy to meet up some time if you want someone to talk to. Has she got any other symptoms? Eczema, cough, sore bottom etc? Also try giving the milk first then the solids after and I know this may sound patronizing but try keeping her upright for at least 20 mins after feeding. Bumbo is good or any of the toys like the learn and groove by leap frog ( invaluable investment!). Also at night pop a pillow under her mattress so she is inclined.
I would avoid apple and banana and try keeping a food diary. You could try quinoa or millet flakes and add pear puree, for breakfast. Website called goodnessdirect have these. Might sound like i am going on a bit but I have become a bit of an old hand at this, and had much advice from experts at Great Ormond Street and Dietitians in London and I must say my health visitor and GP over here are great.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Kelly. P.S She is beautiful.

Hi Emma.
It is hit and miss really with foods that make him sick. I think he just has sicky days and not so sicky days!! He is on 3 solid meals a day, as he just wasn't taking his milk. He was 7lb 8oz when he was born. He is now 5 months old and weighs 13lb 10oz, so is quite small for his age. How old is your little girl?
I worry all the time about him not getting enough food - but you can't force them to eat!! He hates his milk. He will have about 6 oz when he wakes in the morning, the about 2 oz after his lunch. I offer him a bottle mid afternoon, but today he only had 1 oz, and then he usually has about 5 oz before bed and doesn't have anything again until the morning. Before going onto 3 meals a day, he was probably having an average of 20 oz a day.
It is so stressful having a baby with reflux. We have spent time in hospital twice, and he has been put on ranitidine, gaviscon and domperidone. The last time we were in hospital they chaged it to just a higher dose of ranitidine (no gaviscon or domperidone) and a thickener to add to his milk. He is sick more now than he was when he was on gaviscon. We are seeing the paediatrician again next week, so don't know what will be suggested then!!. That was 2 weeks ago, and he has been doing really well, but the last few days have been bad again and he is waking at night, but I think he may be teething as he has had very runny poo and a sore bottom, which are classic signs apparently!!! I hope it's that and not reflux again - I don't think I could go back to how it was a few weeks ago!!!

Hi Emma.
The weight issue is a worry. My son has never lost weight, but he only puts on a small amount and one time he didn't put any weight on at all!
I don't tend to leave much of a gap between solid feeds and milk. My baby is not a hungry baby so it is a nightmare getting any milk into him. The only time I give him milk with solids is at lunch time, when I wait about 15 minutes after the solids. He is sick a little after this. He only has 4 bottles a day now. I am concerned that he is not having enough milk, but he just doesn't like it, so I try to add it into his solid food.
The health visitor advised me to increase to 3 meals a day, and it seems to be working, although he does have quite sicky days still. We changed bottles a few weeks ago, from tommee tippee to avent, and this seemed to help with his milk feeds.
It is good that your doctor has finally listened and is referring you. We went through weeks of trying to convince the doctors and health visitors that there was a problem. The trouble was my son was always so happy, never screaming when we saw them!!! They just kept telling me he was picking up on my anxiety (I am so not an anxious person). Mum always knows best and you have to follow your instimcts!!!
I am trying not to worry too much about weight gain and food intake now, and I do feel a bit better now that I'm not thinking about it so much. My son is happy and lively and developing really well, so that's the main thing.
I would give the 2nd solid a go. Offer the solid food first, then the milk - that's what I was advised to do.
Hope this helps. xxx

Hi Emma.
Have been to see hv today and I told her I was concerned about my sons milk intake. She said 18oz is recommended, which made me feel better as he has around that much. She also said a lot of babies don't have this much, but they get the goodness from yogurts etc.
Have you tried solid feeds without milk afterwards? I give my son breakfast at 9 without milk afterwards, and he usually keeps this feed down.
Hope you're having a good week.

Hi Emma.
That's great that you have got an appointment so soon. Do let me know how you get on.
My son only has 4 bottles a day. I used to wake him at 11pm to feed him, but we stopped that as he was only taking about half and ounce, so it seemed pointless waking him up! He was sleeping through really well, but the last few nights have been a nightmare - I was up at 1.30, 3.00, 4.00, 5.30 and 6.00 with him last night!!!! Don't know if this is down to teething?? I hope so, as I need my sleep!!! He is still in our room, but I think I will move him into the nursery soon!
We have an appointment with the paed on Thursday, so will see what is suggested there. He is being sick a lot more since coming off gaviscon, so I don't know what they will suggest!
Good luck for Tuesday.

Hi

He seems to have drooly days and his cheeks are red on and off. We had another wakeful night last night. He was just lying in his cot babbling away!!! I think we will move him into his own room when we get back from our holiday which we are going on next week.
Hope your little one is doing better on the pepti. We tried our son on that but he wouldn't have it anywhere near him as he didn't like the taste!!! He had a very sicky day yesterday. He was fine when he was on the gaviscon, so might suggest he goes back on that at our appointment.
Do let me know how you get on on Tuesday.

Hi
Glad you got somewhere yesterday. My son has used those meds. He was on Gaviscon and domperidone with ranitidine. He was unsettled but not as sick. He is now on a higher dose of ranitidine and a thickener (not gaviscon and dom) and is a lot more settled but more sick!!! He is on 1.2mls of ranitidine 3 times a day. He was on 0.4mls and the paed said this wouldn't be doing much. Since the change he has been better, although he is sick a lot!!
Had a phone call this morning cancelling our appointment tomorrow!!!! We were fuming and after several phone calls, we are going to the children's ward to be seen by the paed who saw us when we were in last time. We have been waiting 4 weeks for our appointment, and they said the next one was in another 4 weeks - I can't wait that long. We need to get the sickness sorted out.
My son is doing ok, but is very whingy today. I don't know if its the heat or teething. He seems to be off his food also. It's such a nightmare - just when things seem to be settling down, something else happens.
Glad I'm seeing the paed tomorrw. Will let you know how it goes.

yes i have facebook...well harrison did sleep about 7/8 hours from 5 weeks a night but now he doesn't he has a feed at 10 then wakes at 2.30 then 5, i think because he has really stopped eating in the day he is starving through the night, thats also another reason i want to start solids to see if they will help fill him up...i think its since he started the medicine is appitite has gone because i didn't have feeding problems until he was about 13 weeks..about the same time as we started the meds..hummm
