Hi Adele

I'm so sorry you and Alex are having such an awful time.

Many health professionals are ill advised about this and unfortunately little ones go untreated for months.

Please don't give up hope though. You will get help, somebody will listen to you. I really feel for you having 3 little ones. I know how hard it is for me with a 2 year old and a baby (who is starting to twist at the minute).

I'm going to have to go and see to Joe, sorry this is such a short message, I will be back on later tonight when things are hopefully a bit quieter here.

Remember you're not alone, we're all going the same thing and always here for a chat or a rant!

Take care, speak later

Hi Adele

Sorry you and your little one are going through such a hard time. Yet again another baby suffering unnecessarily because health professionals fail to listen and diagnose.

If your little one is so bad I can only think of one thing, go to A&E and refuse to leave until someone does something about it- that someone being a pediatrician. If the Ranitidine is not working for Alex, then maybe they'll have to prescribe something else, probably Omeprazole, which also reduces the production of acid in the stomach, but works in a different way to the ranitidine, and often is more effective.
I too went through the same nightmare, trying to convince the HV and the GP, who thought I was crazy. I ended up having a nervous breakdown. I know regret not having gone to A&E and made myself listened to.

Everyone here completely understands what you're going through and feels for you and your family.
Please keep in touch.
Take care

God, what a nightmare. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Thankfully my little one is no where near as bad but he also cries during and after feeding. He's actually hardly ever sick but seems to be in pain a lot. Like you, because he's gaining weight, no-one wants to know which makes me so angry. Why aren't they willing to treat his pain? My GP told me she doubted he was in pain, suggested he was crying because 'that's what babies do' and told me to give him diluted orange juice!!!! When I refused to do that and demanded to see a specialist she really shouted at me. I'm mean REALLY shouted. I nearly walked out. We also use Gaviscon and Ranitidine but neither seem to make any difference. And to top it all the other one now has severe colic and is also in agonising pain.
Sorry I've got no advice, just wanted to sympathise with you about the health service. Good luck, let me know how you get on xxx

Hi Adele
Sorry to hear you are having a rough time with your wee one, small consolation, it does get better with time but its all about helping for the here and now. I took Anna to an osteopath when she was about eight weeks as no one believed me that she was in so much pain and discomfort. The treatment of which she had three did appear to help at the time and after three weeks she did appear to be a much calmer baby and fed better but still puked the same. I am not sure whether it really did help or not as this may have been a natural reduction in the reflux as 3 weeks later she was as bad as ever again and thats when I demanded she be seen. She was started back on gaviscon which I felt was rubbish and we ended up taking her to sick kids a & e where finally we were listened to and taken seriously as she screamed in the waiting room for 2 hours!! I also found that my diet played a big part in her reflux and had to adjust it accordingly but you don't find out these things till they are well on medication. Anna is on domperidone and losec which both work well for her. She still pukes quite a lot but there is now no pain. Solids seem to stay down a bit better than breastmilk and its trial and error really with the food. I keep a food diary which helps as a reminder what she has eaten and what her day and night were like. I weaned her at 20 weeks and I think again it is really trial and error, some refluxers have been worse weaned early and some better. I did find the baby rice very constipating for her so quite quickly went on to vegetables which are fairly tame, its the fruit that we have probs with with extra puking and unsettledness. Anna is now 6 and a half months and thriving well, I also got the "oh but she's putting on weight!!!" it drives you nuts, would they rather they failed to thrive!!!! Let me know how you get on and if there is anything else I can add, hope this has been a wee help, take care.

Hi All,

Thank you so much for all your kind words of support. Good to know I am not on my own.
Sorry I’ve not been in touch for a while but things have been pretty manic. Was back at A&E again with Alex last week in the wee hours of the morning, then hospital appointment then osteopath. Anyway the long shot is that eventually a consultant listened to me in PD and Alex is going to be sent for some tests. Firstly a Barium meal and then another type of test if that doesn’t show anything.

Hopefully this will draw an end to things and at least we will find out what we are dealing with and maybe find out how long it will go on for. Will keep in touch and let you know how it all goes.

PS: Alex did seem to improve slightly after the osteopath the other day. That’s twice he has been. I guess this could be a coincidence or it may be working. Very difficult. Time will tell?

Thanks Again
Adele
