"Hi Lucy, I don't really have much advice but can empathise. My little girl had 17 chest infections in 19 months, almost certainly related to reflux and aspiration. She's now 3 and a bit, and although she has inhalers daily, the frequency…"

Sarah replied to Jodi Leale's discussion Can I join you? :)
"Hi Jodi, Just to add that ranitidine is sometimes favoured because it is an antihistamine as well. A lot if babies with reflux struggle with inappropriate reactions to proteins in the milk and the antihistamine properties can help. Re the…"

Sarah replied to Beth's discussion Nalcrom
"Beth, Just to say that I would certainly give Nalcrom a go. It's a mast cell stabiliser and is described as an "anti-allergy" drug - it works to actually prevent the release of histamine and other toxins in response to allergen…"

Sarah replied to Jenny Garcia's discussion Nutramigen poo's & Weaning. Silent refluxer.

Thank you Sara, Just to put things into context for you in 8 weeks we have been to A&E twice and sent home with a diagnosis of colic. We were referred by the GP to see a pediatrician who diagnosed colic and prescribed Gaviscon & paracetamol reviewed once & discharged. Demanding a second opionion we were seen last Monday & diagnosed with reflux, prescribed ranitidine 1mg twice a day. Feeling very frustrated that the medication did not appear to be helping Noah we tried to contact the second pediatrician but he was unable to speak with us or give us any advice except to say go and see your GP & that he would see Noah as planned end of Feb.

I now understand that you may have to give ranitidine time to work but that has been  incredibly difficult. Noah screamed for 10 hrs on Fri night & 14 hrs on Sat night - He appeared to be so frightened at times he would not even let us touch him. So we took him to B'ham childrens hospital yesterday, we did see the consultant pediatrician who spent 45 mins with us despite at least 40-50 people waiting to be seen in the dept.

Bottom line - she prescribed omeperazole (actually not sure of the dose as we have to collect it this morning) & suggested putting Noah back on to SMA stay down  milk especially for reflux babies. All of us feeling very exhausted - asking so many questions, it is only this morning upon reflection that I know we need to go back and read your inital advice regarding the milk proteins before changing his milk again.

I can't tell you how grateful I am to you as this journey has been such a difficult one for all of us especially Noah & all we really wanted was a professional who really understands to help us make informed decisions, but just getting here has felt like a real battle and I understand how little some professionals understand this condition.

We are all still learning and pray we make the right decisions for Noah. Thankyou Sara you are a god send, Amanda.
