LittleRefluxers

Hi,

I have just joined the site since my 15 week old son has been diagnosed with acid reflux. He is on Gaviscon, Domperidone and Ranitidine.
I have a few questions people might be able to help me with:
1. Is it best to give the Ranitidine before or after a feed?
2. Can Domperidone and Ranitidine be given on the same feed or can they cancel each other out? Hence shal I give them on different feeds?
3. There is an incline the reflux could be caused by a cow's milk protein intolerance and he was prescribed Neocate, however he refused to drink it (it stinks and I think he doesn't like the taste). Any tips on getting him to drink it?

4. Anyone from the Birmingjam area fancy meeting up?

Look forward to your replies!

Hi hun

Give both ranitidine and domperidone together is fine and you ideally need to give them 20 mins before a feed

My LO would not drink hypoallergenic formula at all and I tried everything I even added crusha to it and she would not drink it - eventually I gave up and she drinks aptamil now but not much of it - she has about 10oz a day but I weaned her at 12 weeks and she eats lots of dairy and has a calcium supplement and she is happy drinking water

Hope you start to notice an improvement soon ours peaked at 12-16 weeks then started to get slowly better - now my LO is 10 months and we are only a tiny bit of meds now and she is much much better

Its horrible though reflux

I would offer to meet up - I am in Northants but I go back to work unfortunately in two weeks :-(

Good luck
Thanks Victoria,

So I can give Domperidone and Ranitidine at the same time, both before the feed? That would make life easier.
My lo also doesn't drink much of his milk. Around 20oz per day with a struggle.
What kind of dairy can I give him to keep his calcium up? He will be 4 months next week. Do you buy the calcium supplement at the pharmacist?

Thanks for your help, Hannah x
Hi hun sorry for late reply normally it emails me but for some reason it didn't

You can get calcium supplements from docs but they are awful - I used Flordix Kindervital and its great - she loves it - but its 6 months plus - I used it from 5 months with docs approval

20oz is good my LO never took that much so yr doing well hun

Before feeds and together for the meds is fine hun - thats what we did

Have you considered weaning early - thats what we did and we never looked back xxx
Thanks Victoria. It is soooo hard and I am soooo tired. We started him on Neocate on Monday and it has been such a struggle to get him to drink anything. It will take me around an hour to get 2oz down him and he has started waking every hour in the night again. I am considering just giving up and putting him back on the Cow & Gate as he was "only" waking for two night feeds on that.
A lot of my freinds babies are sleeping through the night at 4 months. Do reflux babies ever sleep through the night? If I was getting more sleep I might be able to cope, but on 3 hours sleep a night I am sooo exhausted.
How long did you try the hyper-allergenic formula before you gave up?
What medicines worked best for you? Did the ranitidine work or did you change to omeprazole?

Thanks,

Hannah xxx
