LittleRefluxers

I would love to hear about weight gain in your reflux babies. Mine is 8 months and only 16 pounds. he has been on dom peridone and omeprazole for about 5 months now. Luckily he does sleep well, but vomit - he does well.

I am at my wits end worrying about his weight and nutrition as he wont take any milk at all - neocate. i am finding the medics pretty unhelpful and clearly unconcerned.

Hi Lucy

Sorry to hear about your little boy. My little boy (he is now 9 months) was very different as he didn't sleep at all but didn't lose too much weight.  However, he never liked his milk (neocate) and still doesn't - on a good day he drinks about 300ml.

I would concentrate on trying to wean him and making sure he gets a really balanced diet through other foods.  I have had good advice from the dieticians at SCH about trying to add formula to his food (he hates the taste of the formula so spits it out), double the concentration of the formula (won't drink it) and have even tried fortified oat milk which apparently most children are OK with, but he wasn't!!

The main constituents of formula that are important from 6 months on (when they are on a healthy diet) are the calcium and vitamin D.  These are abumdant in normal diary poroducts, but I assume your little boy is dairy-intolerant too - so I give him a vitamin supplement I have bought at the chemist (abidec - although contains no caclcium) and then try to cook with vitamin D and calcium rich foods - we eat lots of green leaf vegetables, turnip, fish etc.

Hope this helps reagrding his nutrition - I found that my little boy started to improve his weight gain when he started taking good amounts of diet.

Good luck

Susan
