LittleRefluxers

Hi, My name is Lisa. I'm from Winchester. My son was diagnosed  with milk and soy allergy at 9 months .Luckily i had signed up to take part in Southampton Generals  European allergy study when i was pregnant so we were  fast tracked through the system and managed to have the allergy tests and observations done pretty quickly. First he was prescribed Nutramigen infant formula .I also tried infant Gaviscon with his formula for his reflux which is quite common in children with allergies. Many many times we ended up at A&E when he had unexplained chocking episodes and high temps. He had a constantly runny nose and a cough for months at a time. I could set my watch by him as every night around 45minutes after going to sleep he would wake screaming and gulping back what sounded like vomit or liquid. Sometimes he would wake up gasping for air. I went to a G.P about my concerns only to be told that i shouldn't worry as his breathing mechanism will kick in and if it doesn't, call an ambulance!!. I spent hours on the Internet viewing YouTube videos of other peoples children having strange nocturnal episodes.  I just didnt know what was wrong with him.It was only when i filled in the questionnaire on Alison Scott- Wrights website in a last ditched attempt for help (he was still sleeping in my bed  at nearly 3 years old , bieng incredibly hyper and anxious all the time} that i got the help i needed. Alison called me and said that it sounded like he was still reacting to the Nutramigen and to change it to Neocate and get a prescription of Losec . Well.i did and i can safely say that in the month we have been on it, he has not once woken up chocking. His little body is so much more relaxed when he is asleep too. We have a review in a month of the medication but the future is looking much brighter!

Hi, that's great news!!!! Vet you were so pleased you signed up to that!! When it comes to sleeping it's one of the worst things when everyones tired!! Do you mind me asking what symptoms he had with the allergys??! My docs will not even comprehend allergys but he is on lots of meds and still uncomfy at night at from 4 it's normal a real struggle for him to stay asleep through tossing turning, tummy pain etc!!! Then the viscious cycle of tired baby and tired mummy start again!!!
Well again fingers crossed and very pleased he's doing better and your all getting some sleep!!
Thank you x x
The symptoms started at around 4 weeks. We tried 3 different formulas and then switched to Soy formula. Nothing helped. I recognised his symptoms because my first child was diagnosed with a milk allergy when we lived abroad and was prescribed Pregomin. Firstly he didn't sleep for longer than 20 minutes at a time.He cried almost all the time and pulled his legs up to his tummy. Now, thanks to a really patronizing Health Visitor ( Oh is this your first baby dear??!!) i left it thinking it was colic. I tried all the colic meds going. Then as time went on i thought it must be teething and bought all the teething meds going ( some contain Lactose). After seeing 4 Pediatricians ( we lived in Cyprus at the time) one finally said lets do some tests for milk and soy allergy. They came back positive. That is how, this time around, i recognised my 2nd child's symptom. He is , as i mentioned now 3 and although he sleeps he is a very restless little boy.
If you are still worried video your child sleeping and show the Pediatrician. In my experiance it is the parents that shout the longest that get the help!. Good Luck and i hope more settled night are just around your corner.x
