LittleRefluxers

I'd love to hear from you if you have any ideas on how to deal with people when your baby is in the throws of screaming in public.

My daughter has silent reflux amd like many of you I dread being out and about when it's time for feeding. My own coping strategy is to give her a cuddle and try to zone out as otherwise we all sob. This I am sure makes me look like a cold mum and I'd love to be able to just calmly say to someone '..............' so they know I am doing my best.

Hi Victoria,

We used to find quite places to go to, that helped us. Also we used the Poddee bottles so our little girl could sit upright and drink, also our doctor gave us a medicine called Zantac which has helped. We used 1ml 3 times a day but have managed to get it down to 3 x 1/2 ml now that she is almost one. When she started to stand up that also helped. My husband is at home most days if you want any other advice just email as he is on the PC at least once / twice a day.

We found that most people didn't understand what silent reflux was all about...even now most people go 'O'h I had a sicky baby too'....but if you've got a reflux baby you know about it. Others still give random advice, but we've discovered that most advice is useless....so forgive us if we've given you ideas that don't work for your baby!! We fully understand. We were in denial for months with health visitors and the GP not taking it seriously - but eventually they did - thankfully. She was murder to feed until about 8 mths when we finally got it under control. I too avoided feeding in public. Good luck I really hope it improves for you.
Thanks so much for your response. I have started being brave and just coping with Poppy screaming, we have also started weaning so this has helped.

The only thing that helps our LO is feeding there and then. Also not keeping him in a pushchair longer than 20-30mins. We too are careful about where we go because it is very stressful if you are in a crowded place. Best wishes, Wife of Mat W
