Poor you!
I know how you feel - I have a five year old and a baby both with reflux. I am not sure if we have "spoken" before - I have
not been on here for ages.
I will reply very quickly I have screaming baby too!
Firstly reflux is a symptom of a bigger problem - especially as he still has it at 5yrs. My son has been seen by Dr Shah
at GOSH for over a year now and has been dignosed with a bowel disorder - baby has the same. Re the behaviour - I don't know how extreme he is but an irritable gut prevents any level of concentration - the Paed described it as how your stomach feels just after a nasty sickness bug. Imagine trying to concentrate or sit still when you feel like that! My son has good days and bad days - sometimes he cannot even stand still and other times he surprises us by sitting and listening for 10 mins.
What drugs are you children on?
Sorry must dash,
Helen
Hi again. Yes we have spoken before. Thanks for your reply.
My suspisions are that the two are linked. We have seen a gastric pead consultant but he only treats and advices on the reflux not the behaviour. I wish there was someone who wounld look at the whole picture.
For the behaviour we have been refered to a childrens centre who have sent an ADHD questionaire and forms for his teacher to fill in. At school he avoids eye contact is impulsive, has freindship issues etc. We have an appointment in July and I really hope they will look at diet and behaviour and th reflux together.
He has had investigations into the reflux including a barium swallow ph study and endoscopy. This showed no inflamation, just ph index of 9 and 290 episodes of reflux in 24hrs. The longest lasting 20 minutes. He is on domperidone 5 ml twice a day Omeprozole MUPS once a day, 1 tablet and gaviscon as and when needed as we feel it helps instantly.
The youngest 2 year old is just on gaviscon and pain relief. He wakes up screaming with leg pain at night but we feel it may be the reflux, just need to get him looked properly at now. He has seen an orthepedic dr for the leg pain. the dr thinks it may be severe growing pains and adviced pain releif everynight and a follow up in 6 months.
Thanks for your comments. They do make sense. He is definitely irritated by something. He is continuously clicking his tongue, shouting, popping his mouth and whistling as if to distact himself.
I'll keep you posted.
