Hi all, I hope everyone is doing ok.  As you may know Jasmine has improved dramatically and is med free for last 4 weeks.  I started weaning her at 6 months with complete purees and stage 1 jars/ellas kitchen pouches.  She has a good appetite but I have started trying to move onto stage 2 but she doesn't take it very well, is gagging on it and spitting it out.  I'm not sure if she has an aversion to lumps or she is just being fussy as she will eat finger foods fine (organix stix, banana, sweet pot etc).  the HV has told me to just start putting whatever i'm eating in front of her and let her pick it but i'm a bit hesitant due to her not getting enough and also what do I put in front of her as I don't home cook every day. What do you think I should do.  Are all your lo's on stage 2 food from 7 months as i'm feeling quite pressured.  Just a bit confused and I don't want to start making her hate eating as she is just started feeling well and enjoying her food.  Any suggestions greatly received xx

Hi Sarah, um not too bad. She woke couple times night before last then woke at 5.30am this morning but her nappy had leaked (thats pampers baby dry for you!) so not sure if that woke her. Generally she's a bit grizzly, drooling loads, restless and slightly off milk so must be teeth but can't see any as yet. Am waiting until she's settled again before I try dairy. I gave some finger foods today (all my boiled up veg) but she was NOT keen, being picky because she loves those crisps and when she realised it wasn't one refused to eat any of it. After a while she ate a couple pieces of carrot and didn't gag but I ended up giving her puree after an hour as didn't want her to go hngry, do you think thats ok? Do you freeze any finger food as i've got a whole b.squash but it will end up in bin rate we're going. What other finger foods could I try, she likes crunchy melty things. She likes biting cos of all her teeth too. How's everything your end? xx
Sounds good with carrot & leaving it til later to give puree good idea to encourage her to eat the finger foods. It sounds like she's doing her best to twist you round her little finger to get the snack she wants so well done for holding out!
I haven't frozen veg as finger foods for Ben, but I think I did for eldest, & I freeze most of our leftovers to reheat another day, so I'm sure it will be fine. If left to defrost may be too cold (but some bubs like cold food for soothing sore gums) & if reheated prob go too soft, but still be fine for spoon feeding. Or make soup?
Maybe try pear or melon? Ben loves cheese cubes but don't know if there's a dairy free version? Someone mentioned vegan cheese? Bread caused him to choke so maybe leave that a bit after Jasmine's banana incident. I'll have a think, but get bit stuck myself. He loved breadsticks before I stopped his wheat, but not sure if they'd be too crunchy...most things I can think of that are crunchy melty are the Organix Snacks you've tried! Or there's rusks, but I think they've got too much sugar personally. At least Organix are all good stuff really & my HV recommended them. I try to save them for when we're out & stick to veggies, fruit etc when home. Have you tried oven chips? Get the ones that are just made of potato & veg oil. Broccoli worked well for us- frozen so can just cookup a little if we're not having it too. Ben had savoury rice with peas & sweetcorn in which he ate with his fingers the other night & can now manage sliced grapes, dried apricot bits & raisins so we're getting variety slowly! He even ate one of my flapjack biscuits yesterday & loved the wheat free shortbread. xx
She certainly is trying it on but she seemed to like the carrot and ate it well, I don't think i'll try b.squash again as they're so large and costly and she doesn't seem too keen and it's not a staple part of my diet so bit pointless really. Carrots I can boil up fresh and pots, I didn't think of frozen veg, how silly of me. No haven't tried oven chips, I bet she'd love them. I'll go to HV and say well she loves crisps and chips lol! I put a piece of grated cheese on highchair day I offered dairy but she wasn't interested. It is difficult isn't it, I get all in tiz-waz. She doesn't seem to like strong flavours, the blander the better it seems, maybe thats the milk, seems to hate anything creamy or sweet. I did try rusks but she hates them lol!
Arr thats great he's getting a taste for different things :-) and great he's got the pincer grasp going on. Hope you're doing ok ((())) xxx
Sweet potato is nice esp roasted & you can get small ones. If I want it as mash I just wash it & bake it whole then scoop out from the skin. Or chop & roast with tatties with roast dinner...mmmm! Frozen veg is a staple in our house as hubby not keen on veggies. Frozen baby carrots only good for Ben in cassarole or they seem too tough. Ben prefers cubes of cheese to grated & loved cheese spread on his toast the other day. I found a new wheat free bread that actually worked as a sarnie- just £3 a loaf though to mainly get chucked on the floor! Have you tried scrambled eggs? When you try dairy again fromage frais yogs are great- think all babes love yoghurt!
I'd like to see your HV face when you tell her that lol!
Yes we're getting there slowly, but he seems to have permanantly nasty nappies at mo, so now his bum is really sore! He slept from 1pm to 7pm today...catching up after being with childminder every morning having too much fun to sleep, then resisting sleep to make most of his Mummy time until he crashes, then waking early from nap when I have to do school run. Daddy was home today so he could catch up some much needed sleep, but then woke with dirty nappy & red raw bum- poor bubs!
Hi Emma

My hv suggested pizza fingers and big fat oven chips as good finger foods. I'll try and think of some more, not had to think of those for a while.  Oh asda do these little potato and carrot waffles and they're not too big but think dd had them when she was a bit older and small sarnies with dairylea went down well.
Are the Asda potato & carrot waffles in freezer section or are they a crispy type snack like Organix do? How was your Lo with the tomato factor with the pizza? Presume I'd have to make my own as my Lo is wheat free- I have seen wheat free pizza base mix but wasn't sure how to make the sauce.
Thanks for suggestions, if you think of any more that would be fab!
Yep waffles in freezer section. Have to check ingredients though. My dd loves themZ it's one of only a handful of foods she will eat and they're great to just stick under the grill. I did buy pizza fingers but she wouldn't eat them. It's only now like a year later that hv is suggesting she may have a dairy allergy as a reason as to why she's such a poor eater but who knows? I was always concerned about unhealthy foods but she's only just on 25th cent so hv said to feed her up with calories. Fish fingers are great when lo is old enough for them but again not sure on allergy content. Annabel karmel has a good finger food book out for suggestions. I tried making meat balls and chicken balls etc but dd wouldn't eat them. They were quite tasty. What else? I can't think. Oh she used to love roast beef, very soft small pieces but forgot what age you can give that from. I'll have a good think tonight.
Thanks Emma, will check waffles as make a change from chips. Haven't found wheat free fish fingers yet so he's had fish with batter removed or I found some value fish cubes he liked. x
Hiya, tanks Emm for your suggestions, thats great. Jasmine took some more carrot and parsnip today and seemed more eager so thats good.
On another note i'm having a dreadful evening, Jasmine has screamed for the ;ast 2 hours and is soo tired but won't sleep so overtired. I was sat downstairs and suddenly she let out a blood curdling scream. I gave her the smallest piece of grated cheese for her tea just to see if she'd take it, I wonder if it's that but she's so distressed she's catching her breath :-(xx
Oh Em - poor Jasmine! If I were you I'd leave the dairy for a week & stick to getting her used to veggie finger foods. I hope she calms down soon xx
She's gone to sleep now but I can hear her groaning and whining in her sleep so maybe it's caused tummy ache (calpols done nothing) it's bit of a strong coincidence she is like it again after dairy, yep i'm not even going to let her cuddle her soft cow lol! xx
Ahh bless her!! Hopefully she'll stay asleep now...fingers crossed for you both!
Lol bout her cow xx
