LittleRefluxers

Very long story short/
Hi guys my daughter is now 19 months old, diagnosed with server silent reflux as 5 weeks old. had breathing problems due to acid, bein in and out of hospital. Tests after tests after tests.
Dairy intolarent 14 months Celiac at 16 months.
Reflux carmed with the help of meds around 13 months, but still takes a little Omeprazole daily and Gaviscon. Never very sick just continually spat up in the early months. Things improved greatly once intolarence detected.
However Saturday she began throwing up, and hasn't stopped since. Tuesday was so bad she was admited to hospital, as she was bringing the bile off her tummy and in it was what they call coffe grains (blood).
~Throught the vomiting and the acid she had begin to bleed,,,, (so scared) I have since been told that the tummy and the osphigus (sorry about spelling) will heal over time once she stops being sick and the acid calms back down. We have had to double her reflux meds.
All the hospital said they could do was monitor her for dihydation, see how much is going in and then how much is coming out..... The virual infection she has just has to work its way through her system.
She hasn't eaten for days and is losing weight rappidly, I can see the change in her.
We have gone back to the arching back, not sleeping, screamming in pain, and being a very very clingy little girl. (I know a lot of you will understand this, you love them to death but it does your head in).
I cant understand why they cant give her some antibiotics or some thing to help, she is suffering and its been nearlly a week.
This just goes to show that a refluxer will suffer more than most. I was also told to expect her to bleed when she is ill, it will be some thing now to look out for.
Stupid me thought as she got older and the reflux was controlled it would more or less stop as the mussle grew,,, OH how wrong was I.
Has any on else had problems with longer standing illnesses due to being a refluxer, Im angry, sad, feeling low but most of all Im scared. She is still to little to fight this alone, its hard enough for us adults let alone putting a tot through it.
Sorry if its a bit garbled.

hello poor wee mite I am so sorry to hear of your hard time.
Has the little one picked up the winter vomiting bug or is this the reflux worsening ?
Mummy/ Oh defo had some kind of bug, Hospital say its a virus.... What sort they never said.
Im SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad to say that she has not been sick today yet (4.30pm) and yesterday she was only sick when she burped, which she did a lot of.
Her reflux has been really badly effected, you can clearly see her arching and whining, trouble is at her age she lets you know whats hurting, and I always thought it would be easier if you knew what hurt,,,,, oh no its horrible..
Wish I knew when it would all carm down again.
Oh thats awful you know yourself how the winter vomiting bug or any sickness bug makes u feel.
I know a few (very healthy) babies that have ended up in hospital with a very bad dose of it.
Hopefully this is just a minor setback and she will get much better very soon.
And you Belinda are entitled to a big glass of wine later as its the weekend !! x
Hi hun you poor thing i know what your going throgh our little guy lewis 17 months has the vomiting bug at the moment he got it from my 4 year old.! no blood when he's sick but like your lo he's lost so much weight he's not eating. And oh my god the washing !!!! is never ending. And no one seems to care that he hasnt eaten for 4 days just as long as he's drinking. To top it off ive got it now ! at one point last night at about half 3 in the morning i was being sick in a bucket and he was throwing up on a towel . fingers crossed it will be over soon !. much love hope your hell is over soon xx
Cheers all, / I have been thinking all sorts of things.

Andi da silva/ she sore another doctor last night, as they were on about increasing her Omeprazole to see if it helped. I felt like screaming it's not her reflux making her sick, its the sickness bug playing her reflux up. (they never learn nor listen), any ways, as she has now desided she wants to eat and drink, even though she cant keep it in (ether end now), apparently she is through the worst bit ??????????????????????? not convinced.
They say another week, as it can take up to a fortnight to work through the system, and yes the famous AS LONG AS THERE NOT DYHDATING (sorry about spelling) they will be fine.
None of us have been poorly yet with it, but I bet we will. They say that a refluxer has a more delicate tummy so suffers longer...... Oh joy (not) as though they havent suffered enough.
Speedy recovery XX
We've had the same bug as well and I almost posted something last weekend as I was also so worried. My little boy also seems to have lost weight and his reflux certainly was back. I've put him back on meds for the time being but now the bug has disappeared and he's now eating tons again. Let's hope it will be the same for your little girl. Good luck
Just a quickie as time to get Josie up. Your little one sounds like she has been through it :( Josie has had two horrible bugs/ viruses this month. They have both lasted at least a week where she has been constantly sick and/ or not eating. (although never bringing up blood) She lost weight but since getting better in the last week she has definitely been making up for it. She has been desperate for her morning bottle. Normally I can 'persuade' her to have 6 oz. This morning she had 7 oz, wanted more, gave her another 2 and she still wasn't really happy. Her solid intake has been great too. What I am trying to say in a long winded way is that she lost weight but her body seems to know she is better that she needs to put it back on again. She has never eaten so well in her life. I hope this is what happens with your little one xx
Thanks for all your comments....
Well we are now on day 10, and we still have sick and runny poo, (it's yellow and very smelly like water) (sorry to be graffic).
We spoke to yet another doctor last night about some better pain relef (other than paracetamol) for her tummy as she clearly has cramps, and she spent the next 2 and 1/2 hours screamed the house down and produced 2 dirty (water) nappies, through it.

I am so fed up of watching my little girl suffer,,,, they say if its a viral infection then antibiotics wont help, but if it is a bactirial infection then they can do a blood test and give her meds according.
My question is why does she have to wait another 4 days before they will do any thing.
They could do a blood test while she's ill and then see what that shows, giving us a clearer picture of what is really happening. Got a doctor's appointment for her tomoz night.

It's strange she now seems fine until she eats or drinks any thing, 15 mins after its in the tummy, its coming back out again one end or the other.????. SCREEEEEEAAAAAAMMMMMMM, its so flustrating.
May be I should have had a little more faith,,,,,, Oh I dont no,,,, and right now dont care. I am one happy mommy.
There has been no sick or dirty nappies at all today (day 11). She seems lots better, more like her little self. And best of all she has eaten, and kept it down.
I just hope im not jumping the gun..... x
I really hope she's on the mend. Josie's sickness stopped first and then the diarrhoea went too. Fingers crossed your little one is better now and eats like a horse to catch up xx
I had to tempt fate, she was throwing up again last night. Only twice, but all the same some thing isn't right. she seems to be fine during the day time, playing and happy go looky, but then after tea time she is being sick. There is not tempature, rash or any thing to indicate she is poorly. She winges like shes uncomfortable and then shortly after is sick. She winges a bit more but will then settle as best she can. Although she has always been a fiddget and not a fab sleeper, this has got a little worse.
She now has yet another doctors appointment tomoz morning, where I am going to ask for a bactirial test to be done.
Im getting so concerned now.
