If it helps Charlie hasn't had any milk (Neocate) regularly in his diet since 9-10 months old and our dietician and feeding specialist are fine with it as long as he has a balanced diet. Like you I worried myself stupid about it but in the last 6 months Charlie has probably got through 3 tins in total. How old is Cian now? Does he eat enough solids to continue to gain weight? If so I would try and relax a bit and maybe get some calcium supplements if you're worried.

Hi Catherine,
Just to say try not to worry. Remember you chose that nursery because you obviously liked it and felt you could trust them with Cian.
Seb's been at nursery for about 4 months now and I must say they are very good with all his needs. I provide the food so that I know what he is getting. They are not allowed to offer him anything without ringing me and checking first. If Cian won't take milk from them is there any chance he'll have a yoghurt instead. I make it using water, cornflour and neocate - so it's basically milk which has set, and at least then you know he's getting a decent amount into him. Only takes a few mins to make aswell so easy to do in the morning before nursery if you haven't managed it the night before!
If you still try to give Cian his morning and evening bottle, then he should be ok without a bottle during the day if he has alternatives such as yoghurt and custard. Many of my friends babies who aren't refluxers gave up daytime milk at 6 months and are all fine.
As for medication the nursery are very good about given him the right stuff. We needed a letter from our doctor stating what medication he was on. Each time they administer something it's written in a book which we have to sign at the end of the day.
All I would say is speak to the nursery about your concerns, and label evrything food related, as you don't want Cian ending up with the wrong food.
Hope this has helped put your mind at ease.x
Go and talk to them, Catherine. Our nursery have been really great with Matthew, I was worried because it seemed to take his keyworker a while to get to grips with what he can't have to eat, but they've bent over backwards to accomodate him. To start with I had to go through all the monthly menus with her but they seem to have got it now. The cook often makes him special buns or whatever so he doesn't have to miss out. We provide Oatly and dairy free spread, and to start with I gave them a bagful of "safe" snacks, but they seem to be up and running with it now.
Matthew pretty much refuses to have Oatly as a drink so he doesn't really "drink milk". He still has a couple of breastfeeds a day and I get a couple of portions of Oatly into him in porridge or rice pudding, but he has a calcium supplement to make up the difference so I/nursery don't have to stress about milk intake.
They haven't had to give medication as he was on once daily omep when he started, but I'm sure they said they could give prescribed medication as long as you sign the relevant permission form.
It feels like an insurmountable hurdle but I'm sure he'll be fine once he gets into the swing of it. Make a list of the things you are worried about and talk to them before he starts so they can get some plans in place. Jen xx
hi catherine
i remember the feeling well, Rosie started nursery at the beginning of October and i was absolutely dreading it. Before she started we had a few really bad months with her refusing her nutramigen AA and i was having a right panic that the nursery staff wouldnt be able to dedicate as much time to her etc. She has been fine though and really enjoys playing with the other babies. She takes her milk really well now but i thnk that is due to her being changed onto lansprazole 2 weeks before she started nursery so it had just had the right amount of time to kick in. Food wise i always provide the food as it is too much of a faff going through the menu's, i tried that initially but there was hardly anything she could eat (she is CMPI and MFPI) and i wanted to be absolutely sure of what she was getting and the consistency of it as we have had big problems with her gagging and not tolerating lumps. Its working out really well they write down everything shes done, how much she has eaten, even when she has poo'd and what it looks like!( they know i need to check for mucus or signs of constipation) ..she goes to nursery for 2 days a week and then to grandma for 2 days.I actually have more problems getting grandma to follow instructions ...inlaws eh!
Try not to worry i bet Cian will be fine just be really clear with your instructions ..writing a care plan is a good idea, i did that too xx good luck
