Dear All,
about a year ago i was on this site pretty much every moment of my free time. With a refluxer that wasn't very much at all. My little boy, who is now 2, suffered with Silent Reflux, and in my opinion didn't outgrow it until he was about 14-15 months. Having said that, i don't think he has totally outgrown it as he sometimes still possets and will often go have a suck of his dummy for a few seconds after he's eaten a biscuit or had a drink. The dummy has always helped his reflux. i don't know what i would have done without it
Anyway, Maxi (my son) was a baby that, until he was 18-19 months old, woke up every 2 hours at night. I kid you not. He would fall asleep at 7, wake up at 9 crying inconsolably for half an hour to then fall asleep exhausted in my arms, to then wake up again 2 hours later, to cry for another 20-30 minutes, to.... repeat until you get to 7am the next day.
I swear on my life, my husband's life and that of my child that i am not exagerrating in any way.
During the day, his sleep was not much better. He slept 40 minutes at lunch time, and that was it. But he would wake up crying and screaming inconsolably and angrily and with hindsight it is soooo obvious to me now that he was tired and wanted to sleep more but couldn't.
At 18/19 months we went on holiday to Italy for 2 weeks, Maxi slept through the night and was doing 3 and a half hour naps at lunch. We could not understand why or how but were very grateful. We finally got some rest. We then got home after the 2 weeks and the first night back the 2 hourly waking began and the next day the lunch time napos went back to 40 minutes. I was in tears but realised that it had to be something in the house. We had at this point already tried pretty much everything: cammomile teas, laveder drops, no protein after 5pm, etc etc.
Then something clicked.
I have no idea why it clicked, almost 19 months into the whole saga but it did,. An angel coming to my rescue, i guess.
Maxi's cot was situated directly under our wireless router. Although not in the same room, he was directly under the little white British Telecom box andi thought maybe , just maybe , that was what was disturbing his sleep. causing him headaches? maybe he could hear it?? i had no idea but that day i switched it iff and "went back to the wire" and that night Maxi slept through. The next night and the night after and the night after = Maxi slept. Never waking. His naps lasted 2 hours, sometimes 3. 3 weeks later, beacsuuse our friends were laughing at us, telling us we weer flaky hippies, we switched the wireless back on. Guess what? Maxi woke up after 2 hours. With the same inconsolable , angry crying.
Anyway, long story short - from when we switched off the wireless router Maxi slept and he slept and sleeps well.
Talking to guys i later met who work in IT, they all now tell me that as soon as their little ones were born they went "back to the wire" becasue it isa known fact that EMFs disturb sleep and that routers transmit downwards so we should have had ours, not in the loft but ideally in a cellar or ground floor. Certainly not above his bed.
Anyway, many of you will have a child that doesn't sleep bceause of reflux and but if any of you are questioning whether it is the reflux that is breaking up your child's sleep and have wirelss in your home, try switching it off and going back to a wire. What have you git to lose? worth a try no?
By the way, you can't just switch t off before bedtime and keep it on during theday. The EMFs build up during the time the thing is on. So i am told.
Hope this works for some of you. Worked for 4 friends of mine so i now know i am not a flaky hippy :0)
