LittleRefluxers

Jack is def. suffering from silent reflux. The acid does bother him and his poos are so acidic that his bum is so red. It is now 10 days that he is on solid (only root veg.) and his poor bum is painful and he had problem to have bowel movements. He was crying when trying to push it and now when I have to change him he cries as he does not want me to put some cream on his bottom or be near it.

Poor little boy he is only 5 months!
Anyone experienced this? We have a doc. appointment on thursday as we want his baby gaviscon to be changed and it does not control the acid! any advice/experience.

OMG you poor thing hun - yes the gaviscon does not reduce the acid but it does thicken the milk and hold it down to stop ir being refluxed back up so I wouldn't stop it but I found the comfort milks more effective tbh - what might help you is some ranitidine from the docs and that does reduce the acid and some dompeidone as that moves milk and food through the guts quicker - also what are you feeding him solids wise? as that might also be bunging him up a bit if its rice or cereal - to get him moving some fresh OJ in water might help about 1oz to 4oz water and if you feed lots of sweet potato etc that should give the benefit of the solids without bunging him up

Hope this helps hun xx
Just another thing - could this be teething as that causes the urine to be very acidic and can cause grouchyness too??
Check what foods can be acidic as this might be causing the burning. WIlliam was given ranitidine but we had awful battles to get it into him so I gave up. Do you use warm water and cotton wool when cleaning him?
yes i do and def. dry him properly before putting any cream. Found that bephanten cream is the best for him and just had it under prescription!! His bad bum was most likely due to teething as now 2 teeth have appeared and we seem to be back on track almost! Thanks for your advice though! Teethin was mainly the problem I reckon! phew!!
