LittleRefluxers

Hi all, i was on this great forum whit my first refluxy girl Olivia now i have to deal with my 2months old son reflux :( in Uk we had dr Eltumi that i will never recomend enough, he took O off all drugs and simply gave her Neocate in few weeks she was another baby .
Now we are living in Italy for work resons and here Neocate does not seem an option the ped put him on ranitidine which works only partially and needs constant dose changing as he is growing fast, he still very bad with digesrion and bowel movements and constantly stretch legs and fuss :( that s why i thought it could be intollerance as his big sis! The gp suggested to try rice based formula , i am a bit sceptic as there very little info on web. Anyone tried?
Thanks a lot
A

Hi Oliva
I haven't tried it but I personally would avoid it as rice made my little boy very sick when we weaned him and there are a lot of posts on here saying the same thing about rice not agreeing with their LO.
I know years ago it was popular to thicken formula with rice as my sister had reflux and FTT but it didn't really help much.

Maybe someone else may post they have had success as every baby is different.
Sorry I couldn't be more use xx
I don't know about the rice formula but I know in the uk you aren't supposed to give rice milk until after 2 or 3 years old. It's because there's too high a level of arsenic in it.

I just did a quick google and one site actually says rice milk should be given before 4.5 years old.

Hi Olivia. I'm not aware of any rice based formulas in the UK and rice milk is not recommended for children under 5 due to contamination with arsenic http://www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/2009/may/arsenicinriceresearch

The only formula here that contains rice is Enfamil AR which is a cow's milk formula thickened with rice starch.

Plus I'd agree with Catherine that a lot of LR don't seem to get on with baby rice.

There must be an amino-acid based formula Neocate or Nutramigen AA equivalent over there - I'd get back to the doctor and make him research other options!
