LittleRefluxers

Hi I am Lorraine and live in Bolton, my DS has reflux :(
He is now 6 months old and we have started weening but I am finding it quite difficult as I am sure he has allergies too... he wheezes quite badly and the doc has said he has Asthma although I don't believe him. I think it is connected to his reflux. Anyone else have this problem? Look forward to chatting. x

Hi Lorraine,

My daughter Cassie of almost 3 years has various intolerances and now my son Thomas has silent reflux at just ten weeks old - would not discount the asthma completely as I was told this and hayfever etc in my family makes them more likely or susceptible to have an intolerance and/or allergies - although the cause may be an allergy or intolerance to something.

Take a good look into everything and give it all due consideration - I know it sounds scary stuff but is better to deal with it :)

Love and hugs,

Mary x
Hi ya Lorraine/
My daughter's (now 19 months) breathing from birth seemed very wet and sloppy almost, I was told it was mucus and given sayline drops to put up nose. Needless to say this did not work, at 5 wks old she stopped breathing and turned blue and was hospitalized, (sat's dropping to 28), this was when she was diagnosed with server silent reflux. Even after medication was introduced she still turned blue through stopping breathing and was hospitalized, Tests were done (loads) but again came back to reflux (acid). This time Domperidone was added to the meds, and since then (2months old) she has never had an episode. How ever she does still to this day make strange wet noises, and can sound like she is gasping, I have been told this is due to the acid at the back of the throat keeping the tissues soft. (not really a wheeze)

I found out at 14 months that she was dairy intolarent and at 16 months she was wheat and gluten intolarent.

This is not reflux related/ my son now 7 years old (not a refluxer) from birth always sounded wheezie, I was told it was not ashma but hay fever....????????.
My son wheezes and has coughs alot, he's 11 months. I have been told that this can be caused by the acid damage to the lungs and oesophagus but that most doc's won't aknowledge this is the cause...my son is currently off dairy, egg, soya, wheat and gluten and still wheezing on and off, doesn't seem to bother him. You may want to try to keep him off those things but its very hard...he has mainly fruit, veg, meat, rice, rice cakes etc. You can buy special bread in Asda that has none of the above ingredients, its £1.49 a loaf, which I slice then freeze so I can use one slice at a time and it doesn't get wasted. So hard to know, I've never been convinced its actually food but trying it all on advice of hosp dietician....x
Thank you all so much for your replies, they have all been a great help!
Update from me...
I took DS to see the peadiatric nurse on Monday. She specialises in wheezy babies and babies with other such ailments. She was lovely. We were in there for 45 minutes, she listened to everything I said and examined ds, listened to his chest and checked the oxygen levels in his body (which were 100) which she said was perfect. She then said she thought he had bronchiolitis!!! So nothing to do with his reflux. Although the initial cold virus usually goes within a week, in suseptable babies the cough and wheeze can last for up to 2 months. I presume this is what is wrong with my DS. She has advised I use the inhaler 4 puffs 4 times a day then go down to 2 puffs for 2 days then stop and see if there is an improvement. We started this on Monday and as of tonight there has been no improvement. In fact I would say his cough seems to have got worse! Maybe it is supposed to do that before it gets better?? Anyway we are back at the clinic again on Monday so will see what happens then. Sounds similar to your story Louise, please let me know how you got on with the consultant.
Hope all your los are ok and thanks again for all your response xx
