LittleRefluxers

Hi everybody
really need some opinion here! My daughter has been diag with silent reflus very early ( I was pretty insistent with gps and private pead that it wasn t colic!). We started the classic iteration: gaviscon ( ditched quite soon as difficult to administer as she is totally breastfed), omeprazole and now also added ranitidine. things with the omeprazole improved for a while than bad again. She eats ( despite a very fussy behavior with arching & crying) and grows pretty well, so no doctor will do test so easily on her. Now I am lowering down the drugs dosage and wondering if she has reflux at all.
Together wath seems to be a classic reflux behavior at the breast, she has cry spells during the day, after sudden jumps ( sort of irregular fits) and smelly farts ( sometimes she wakes up for it at night!) .
Do your babies experienced something similar? Thanks in advance

Hi Hun - our symptoms were - impossible feeding with lots of crying and arching of back - would take up to 1.5 hours to get her to take a 2oz feed then between feeds she would mainly be ok but occasionally she would burp and bring up some acid and then she would scream - she hated being laid down flat and would scream as soon as we did - the meds brought it under control but she was still a very diff feeder but she did carry on gaining weight albeit slowly and then we started solids and things got a lot easier - now she is still on meds, Ranitdine, domperidone and gaviscon/carobel in milk but we have not upped the meds for a few weeks and she has not had any really bad spells - we have an app in October back with paed to discuss scaling the meds down

I would say it sounds to me like reflux but maybe she is already growing out of it - you will only really know if you stop the meds - if nothing gets worse then its gone or its not reflux thats causing the crying - if it gets worse and then you start to meds again and it gets better then I guess its reflux

Lots of people on here have had problems with omprazole by the way so could it be a reaction to that

I also have to say I would oppose any testing if yr LO is doing ok and gaining weight etc as the tests are not very pleasant - I have been offered the tests but we used the theory that the reflux meds control her pain so we are happy to go with the idea that its reflux without tests

Good luck hun hope it turns out she has already got all better
My LO has silent reflux and was very jumpy and had incredibly smelly farts and would also wake up for them at night, my little man could not lay flat at all and slept in his bouncy chair for short periods and it would regularly take a couple of hours for him to take a couple of ounces of milk. He virtually cried constantly.

He is on Gaviscon, which works well for him but I took him for Cranial Osteopathy as it was suggested by one of our HV's as in her experience babies with reflux that really have a problem with lying flat resond well to it. We had 5 sessions and he is a different child, he now hardly ever cries except when tired or hungry, sleeps through the night for about 10 hours and I have managed to halve his Gaviscon dose.

Your Lo's symptoms do sound like reflux to me but she may be growing out of it.
