LittleRefluxers

Hi, I haven't been on this site as much as I used to which is testament to the fact that there was an improvement with Josie. We have had trouble with milk intake since her birth. She was put on Nutramigen (6 weeks of hell) and finally Neocate at 4 months. This seemed to help and we gradually upped her intake. I have always had to semi force-feed/ persuade her to take her milk which has caused me great pain but she would be in a terrible position now if I hadn't done it. We waited til she was 6 months to start weaning. It started badly and then went though a fairly good phase. However, once she started on solids her milk intake decreased rapidly and in the last months she has n't wanted solids either. We saw the paediatrician yesterday (another one) and he told us her milk intake and solid intake were too low and that is why she has only gained 1oz in 2 months. Like we didn't know that. He couldn't offer us any advice on how to increase them apart from going on about mashed potato! They took bloods to see if she had any other problems such as thyroid, coeliac etc etc. He is not convinced she has reflux any more as 'she should have grown out of it by now'. He discussed a ph study to see if she has reflux but I am not sure when or if that will happen. We go back in 3 months. He upped her meds to 3 ml of domperidone and 5 ml of omeprazole.

She often starts well on solids and then gets upset throughout the feed so I am sure she is in pain. She often does wet burps after very little food and can be sick easily. It has got to the stage where she doesn't like the spoon. I am wondering whether she has allergies or if certain/ most foods agravate her reflux.

Has anyone any advice or been through this already? I am so scared she will never be able to eat normally and you can imagine the toll that this has taken over the last 9 months. I am going back to work in a couple of months and I juist can't imagine anyone else getting food/ milk into her. I am so upset about it all.

Hi ya, May be barking up the wrong tree, but have you ever seen any extra reactions from a type of food? Reason being, my daughter was diagnosed with silent reflux at 5 wks, after the worst 5 weeks of my life. I stated right from her being 12 hours old there was some thing not right. I was convinced there was some thing wrong with the milk. Switching from one brand to another, things still did not improve. I demanded a Lactoes intolarence test be done. (came back negative), I was told there was nothing wrong except the reflux. I ploded along giving her meds and seeing her consultant. At 5 months she refused milk of ANY kind,, So I was told to offer her yoghurt and use this as a way of getting Calcium and fat into her to still put weight on. She did not like these ether, but would eat Fromage fraies, (loved them) so shoveled them in. She has always been a good eatter from weaning at 20 wks.
I still always thought her pain seemed not only reflux but some think else.
At 14 months old we had a real incident with cheese, she SREAMED to house down, like I have never heared her scream before.
Consultant agreed to try a dairy free diet and see if that changed any thing.
OMG the difference in her was unbelievable she was happy, more enery a totally different child.
There was still some thing not quite right by the end of the evening she would go to bed but only sleep a few hours before moaning and tossing and turning holding different bits of her body, like she was uncomfortable (ache) we then stopped the Wheat and Gluten from her diet,,,, and in 16 months of having her I got TWO full nights sleep in one week. I was gob smacked.
She is now neally 18 months old and still has 2mg liquid Gaviscon daily and 2.5mg Omeprozole and this is being decreased slowly, hopeful med free by end of February..

Im sorry its a long post but if it helps.
She is on a completely dairy free diet at the moment and I haven't really introduced soya either because I am not entirely convinced that this agrees with her. She has soya yoghurt sometimes but usually not keen. She is being tested for wheat allergy but if she can't have dairy or gluten what on earth can she eat?! I think you could be right but the thought horrifies me. Is your daughter likely to have these intolerances forever do you know or could she grow out of them?
Dont be horrified by it, it easier than you think, (I thought the same she would starve), once you get to the route of the problem, ie: wheat/gluten/dairy/soya (there are loads), what ever, the health food shops and some supermarkets do great ranges. The internet helped loads as well.
A typical day for my daughters intake is.
Rice crispies and soya milk, breakfast.
Sandwich with cheese slices, marg, and plain crisps, or chocolate or mousse or yoghurt, Dinner.
Chicken, mash, veg and gravy, evening meal.
Puddings, Ice cream, biscuits, cakes, and cereal bars.
All dairy/wheat/gluten free.
I have been told that if it is an INTOLARENCE then they normally grow out of it by around 3 to 5 years old, as there is not a problem with the food it's self just the amount the body can have. (in some people just the tinyest amount can cause pain). Intolarence does not harm the body, but does cause pain.
If is an ALLERGY then there is little chance of out growing it, some allergies can cause problems with the body.
Hope i've explained it ok.
could it be teething hun - our LO has reoccurance of reflux (although not quite as bad) at the moment as she is teething and that increases the amount of acid in the salivia (hence the sore bottoms etc) and is know to make reflux worse
We have been using teething as an excuse for weeks/ months - I hope it is but I really don't know.
