Hiya,
If its not made her better then I'd go back to the docs and ask for something else. Give it a couple of days just to check - a lot of reflux meds seem to take a few days to kick in, but persist with asking the docs for more help. Its a shame but many of us on here have had to keep going back and back until we have got the right help.
Hope she is better soon
Go back to the docs and demand a referral to A&E or go straight to hospital and refuse to leave till they see you - you need to see a paed xx
I totally agree with the others chuck, get a referral to a consultant, my daughter stopped breathing through the reflux acid and had to be admitted to hospital on a few occations through it. But since being on controled medication (touch wood) that has stopped. I dont think Gaviscon would so much harm, it is only used to coat the insides an leave a barrier to help coat any acid coming up. It is part of the building group of meds so will take a week or more to take affect. However I dont think it will do a lot on its own, I would push for other medication.
I would also try and see if you can get a lactose/dairy test done of some kind, diff milk or some thing.
when my daughter was 12 hours old I stated there was some thing wrong with the milk, it seemed as though it hurt her.
(stupid nurses said oh shes just hungry) any ways after a debate (not a first time mom) they listened to me, a lactose test was done, came back negative (3 weeks old) I was never offered any other types of milk so went through on Cow and Gate,, Diagnosed at 5 weeks old, hospitalized given tests, Burnt badly inside, server silent reflux, given medication. Helps lots but dont be fooled into thinking it stops it, cause it is a hard long road (sorry to give you bad news). My little one is now 17 months old and its gotten easier over the last 3 to 4 months, meds are redusing, but she's still under her consultant.
Also,,, about 2 months ago we found out she was dairy intolerant (why did they not offer me some diffrent milk 12 months ago) she also turns out to be wheat/gluten intolerant..... seems as though there is a BIG STRONG link with reflux and intolerance xx
Sorry to babble on..... Best of luck merry xmas
My Lo has been on the gaviscon for about 3 weeks and although tis stopped her bringing the milk back up it didnt really help her pain which came bak with avengance over the weekend so i went bakc to docs and they have gave me omaprezole (i take the same medication for a stomach ulcer and reflux and its the only thing that helps my pain and i tried many medicines over the years) so im gonna use both and hope my daughter responds to this. She's only had 2 doses so far but already i can see a slight difference as she has been able to sleep during the day properly and isnt refusing her bottles so much. You need to keep going back to the doc though and emphasise how much pain your baby is in. i think a lot of the docs and Hv's fob you off if u arent persistent enough. you know your baby so go with ur instincts!
