LittleRefluxers

Hi. My son is 6 months old (nearly 7 months) and has severe reflux. He is currently on Gaviscon, Ranitidine and Emperazole (sp?)

On Monday he is due to go into hospital for a PH Study. Has anyone else had their child go in for one of these? The specialist has told me that they will put a tube through his nose and down to his stomach, where it will stay for 24 hours. Will they sedate him to do this??

Just wanted any advice on what will happen and what I can expect.. My doctors aren't very helpful!

Thanks in advance x

My little girl had one when she was 6 months old. She was not sedated for it, as the tube is easily passed down the nose, its a very thin tube. the end of the tube sits int he somach and measures the acid. The other end of the tube if connected to a little box and that records the data. Then he can move around as normal and the day should just continue as he normally would, you just hyave to be careful of pulling the tube out, but it isnt as akward as it sounds. For the next 24hours you are asked to record data, like his he sat up, layed down, eating (if so what eating). Then after 24 hours the tube is removed, it doesnt cause any discomfort whilst in or whilst being taken out. then you are free to go and the data is sent off to be analysed. I got the results back after a week and was told my daughter had severe reflux which was worse at night. Worth having the test, might give more insight as to if is reflux and what makes it worse. hope ive helped.x
