On day 5 of Nutramigen and reflux symptoms seem worse anyone else experienced this?

My 6 week old baby has been suffering with silent reflux from week one after being bottle fed from birth on SMA gold after taking her to the doctors we were given infant gaviscon to try which seemed to improve symptoms about 60% after speaking to health visitor who contacted a dietician it was recommended that we try Nutramigen formula as it was likely she may have a possible milk allergy or lactose intolerance.

After gradually introducing Nutramigen over a period of 5 days she is now purely on Nutramigen and have stopped the SMA we  are carrying on with the infant gaviscon but her reflux symptoms are getting worse to the point that we are now back where we started with her not settling at all and us all getting very little sleep it is devasting to see her in so much pain and when she does sleep i'm terrified of her choking.

We were told to give the Nutramigen, 2 weeks as this is how long it is suppose to take for the SMA to come out of her system does anyone know if this is the case? and whether we should just give it time to work? i'm not sure i can wait another week and watch her suffering.

When you say it's more expensive do you not get it prescribed?, we have the normal nutramigen prescribed at the mo.
Can't help I am afraid as we were going to ask the dr to try this one next. But I just wondered if it was true what I had read about lots & lots 'explosive' nappies?
We definitely have noticed a change in the nappies they are awful it does warn on the tin that the formula can cause loose green stools which is very true they are also very smelly. Wouldn't mind if the stuff actually worked.
Thats shocking that they would rather save money than help your baby, it was my health visitor that got the doctor to prescribe nutramigen for me but i think if it was just the doctor i saw i wouldn't have got it.
Is your baby just on omeprazole and nutramigen aa? and is she 100% symptom free or do you still get some symptoms.
my daughter is starting this today, how is yours getting on with it now? she has been on aptamil pepti and it has made her terrible as it gave her terrible wind, she had the worst day yesterday only taking 6oz, im praying this new one works x
We have been on Nutramigen for about 6 days now after being on sma gold so this is the first one we have tried have not noticed any change in the reflux symptoms at all but she did have red blotchy skin which has improved alot.
Have been told to give it another week but can't see things changing hope you have more luck with it.
It is such a frustrating process.
well her last 2 bottles she has taken 3 and half oz on each bottle which is a vast improvement than the 5oz she took all day yesterday, i think the aptamil pepti was upsetting her tummy so think that was the main prob rather than the reflux, think that is pretty much undercontrol with the ranitadine now, im still hoping to have a good day tomorrow hope yours is too, thanks for the advice x
I don't have any problems with her taking the milk i just found it made the reflux worse but she is only on infant gaviscon at the moment went to the gp yesterday but he told me she is on the best there is for reflux and that she would grow out of it, i'm sure she needs something else as the gaviscon did improve things to begin with.
Luckily the health visitor is abit more helpful and is going to speak to the dietician again.
Hope your baby carries on feeding better and it suits her better than the aptamil.
How old is she?
she is now 20 weeks and we have been suffering from her being about 4 weeks old, dont listen to your gp, if you are not happy demand her being referred to a peadiatrician, they fobbed me off with colic for weeks and i spent many a time crying in the gp's surgery, they dont realise how hard it is, gaviscon never touched my little girls reflux, but the ranitadine stopped the screaming just she still has a rubbish weight gain and does not take much milk in a day, its been the hardest time of my life, i have a 3 yr old little boy and never had any of these problems so it was a shock to the system x always here if you need any advice, x
Thank you thats great it makes things so much easier to know there are other people going through the same thing.
Have seen the health visitor today shes contacted the dietician and have told me to carry on with nutramigen for one more week just to give it a fair try.
Touch wood she has been loads better this morning she actually sat in her chair content for nearly an hour not going to get my hopes up but it makes things alot better and i feel happier.
The dietician is going to put her on neocate next if i don't have any success with nutramigen, have you had any experience of this?
I have a 6 year old as well and never had any problems with him either i thought second baby would be even easier less worrying and more chilled, couldn't have been more wrong.
lol i feel exactly the same, thought this time round would be a breeze, i tried my little one on neocate but she would not entertain it, but this is because she is at the age now where she knows what she like because it is really foul smelling, but with your little one being so young she should probably take it, its supposed to be the best of the best so its definately worth a try, my little girl took 3oz this morn and 4oz at 9 then she would only take 2oz at dinner but i filled her up with some food which she has been struggling with lately so im so much less stressed today, maybe its girls, my boy eats like a horse and is no problem, maybe this is the sign of thing to come lol xx
