LittleRefluxers

Just called the hospital to ask about paed about putting her on soya milk as I am up for trying anything now - have been given an appointment this afternoon to see consultant paed gastoentrologist

He had a cancellation today and his waiting list is 7 months long - he is the top man and does not normally see babies who are not as deaths doors so I am really really lucky - hopefully I should get some answers

Please keep your fingers crossed for me - app at 3:15

Really really good luck. Hope you get the answers you are looking for. Let us know how you get on as our two girls sound v similar. I have got a paed's appt Friday and need some ideas in case they haven't got any. Fingers crossed for you. Where are you basd in the country?
Hi Hun - it was pointless - he said "she has reflux and bottle aversion you need to stop forcing the bottle on her but make sure she has at least 20oz milk a day" - well if thats all I have to do then thats easy - if only I had of known

What a moron!!!!

She is being referred to a speech and language therapist for the bottle aversion and a dietician to discuss her diet as she does not take enough milk but he told me there is no point in them seeing me again as she will have grown out of it soon and that I should consider starting to reduce her meds at 7 months

He told me not to try soya milk as its not suitable for babies under 6 months and if she was milk intolerant she would have other symptoms such as diarrohea and a rash - but I think I am going to try anyway as anything is worth a try

The good news is she has gained weight!!!!! Although thats from the solids is good news nonetheless!!!

I am from the midlands?? you?? if yr close perhaps we could meet up and have a whinge

I hardly go anywhere due to the fact that she is so hellish to feed and people take it upon themselves to tell me such helpful things like "your baby can't be hungry if she is not feeding" and "don't worry she will take it when she is hungry" and finally "why are you force feeding your baby" - the last time I fed her in public I broke down in tears and came home halfway through the feed!!!!
Tha is very disheartening but almost what I am expecting to hear. You must be gutted. Do they think they can cure the bottle aversion?

We are in North Devon so a bit far for a whinge!!! I don't like feeding Josie in public and just end up with her having smaller feeds if we are out. I am trying not to force her to feed when she doesn't want to after 2 oz but it's hard because otherwise she would probably reach 12- 15 oz a day.

We are having a rubbish day today :( Hope your little one improves soon. At least she is putting on weight now.
I am down in somerset at butlins next week if you fancy a drive over??
Would be lovely but a 2 hr round trip would be too much - especially at the moment. Have a l great holiday. Hope the sun shines for you x
hi victoria i tryed soya milk for my lo it worked but i found research to back up what there saying about it not being good for babies so i switched to sma lf and she has been brillant on it some thing to do witha hormone soya contains to much can affect them later on girls have earlier periods early puberty and can cause learning difficulties but then again for every thing you read saying this there some one esle saying its all rubbish and soya milk is fine just thought i would past what i learned on you can find it out on the internet thats what i did hope you dont mind me letting you know what i learned.x
Hi Kelly and thanks for this information - appreciate it - we have already tried SMA LF and unfortunately to made no difference to my LO - also tried peptid junior hypo milk and it didn't work as she would not take it at all - don't blame her it smelled rancid - I have also done some reserach and found information saying its not good for boys due to containing oestrogen - can I ask where you found your information about girls problems as I have not found that anywhere
hi yeah i just typed soya infant formula in search engine you could type in side effects for girls see if it narrows it down i must admitted it was mostly saying the effects are worse for boys the learning difficulties girls i think it was just the puberty thing sorry if i have worried you i just read your post and thought i should past on what i found.x
Thats fine hun I would rather make the decision with all the facts available so thanks - you have done me a favour xx
Guys - blokes do not have boobs in Japan and they do nothing but drink soya milk! I went through all this with my two and in Australia (where I was with the first one) they rubbished the studies about soya because it is used so much in Aisa. However, most children with milk allergies will cross react and develop soya allergy, like my two did, so it is really not worth the bother. The best thing to try is neocate and if that doesn't work you need to go and see Dr Shah at Great Ormond STreet. See my other posts, and cheryl's and others. Look up eosinophilic conditions which often cause reflux.

Lastly, poor you Victoria, that makes my blood boil. Let me tell you that a baby WILL feed if they are not in pain. In my view the whole bottle aversion thing is totally crap. Honestly, as soon as you sort out the pain with meds or milk, your baby will drink. If they don't they are in pain. Your docotr is an idiot!

You may need stronger reflux medication. I found domperidone made things much worse, Stella was a lot better off it. Omepraxole is the best medication.
Hi chuck sorry to here things are so hard for u and the little one at the moment,,,, i spent the first 6 months of my little ones life crying feeling guilty, and wishing she was not in so much pain. I think u got to do what u think works,,, although the meds do no what there talking about. My daughter is on Domperidone (i think is great, helped her lots, but again diffrent strokes for diffrent fokes), Omeprazole great stuff and gaviscon advance liquid,,,,, the infant stuff is crap. How can you get the stuff into them if they refuse there milk...... She has been 100% better since they allowed her the gaviscon we take.
She refused milk at around 6 months so i gave lots of yoghurt (no intolarance).
For me it was finding the balance with medication that helped, life is still hard but its 70% better than it ever was. Good luck x
