LittleRefluxers

Hi all

I'm on my second child with reflux and thought I had it all clear. My little one is 12 weeks old and weights around 11 1/2 lbs. She is on 2.5mg once a day of omeprazole suspension. She is no longer crying, vomiting or arching but over the last week she has had what I can only describe as a 'frog in her throat'. In the last few days her feeds have dropped from 4-5oz every 4 ish hours to 2 - 3 oz at every bottle.  Could it be her dose is no longer high enough or just that she is under the weather? She does not have a cold, temperature or experiencing any obvious refluxing. I took her to the docs yesterday and he said her chest sounded fine and as long as she was feeding not to up the dose.

Could I get people's opinions on this? I was thinking of leaving it over the weekend to see if her throat clears and if not, taking her back if she is still reducing the amount she takes. She only took 1oz this morning at her feed and that is the lowest yet.

Many Thanks

Lela

She's just over 5kg. The dose of omep is 1-3mg/kg so she could have between 5 and 15mg.

I'm not entirely clear whether you mean you are giving a volume equivalent to 2.5mg (milligrams) of omeprazole, or if you are giving 2.5mls (millilitres) of the suspension, in which case you need to give us how strong the liquid is in mg/ml to work out the dose she is having.

Many people have found at some point they need a higher dose. It's probably worth trying to ride it out for a few days in case it's just a virus or teething or something making her under the weather, but if you are no better then ask the doctor about increasing the dose.

The suspension label is 5g in 5ml. So I think that means she is having 2.5g per day.  She's had 2oz bottles today before stopping and after her burp she wont take any more, she just arches back and turns her head away.

But thanks Jenny, I think we will give it the weekend and see if this 'frog' clears and if not ask the doc to try a higher dose. (meaning we swap from the suspension liquid to tablets we break ourselves??)

The bottom of the dose range is normally actually 0.7mg/kg, but she's having less than that at present so def scope to ask for an increase.
Can I just dbl check that the label says 5 mg in 5ml, not 5g?

yep, missed the m in mg. Thanks Jenny xxx
