LittleRefluxers

Hi was jsut wondering if anyone has previous experience of Nalcrom. We have just started Jack on it 3 times a day. He has started to vomit at night and has awful foul smelling diarohea. I always worry that what if it is a bug and not a reaction to the medication. I have looked at the leaflet included with the Nalcrom but doesn't give you muuch info re side effects. Can anyone help? Thanks xxx

Oh dear :(

I can't tell you anything conclusive about your baby but I've just taken Douglas off it because I feared it was making him poorly and he's been better off it. He didn't sleep well for the 3 months on it and has started sleeping through again, so I'm suspecting is was causing problems with his allergic colon. I've been told that they can have reactions to the gelatine capsule even if you're removing it. You are removing the capsure aren't you, and pouring the contents into hot water? Apparently Dr Shah has advised other people to try it in boiling water if hot water isn't helping.

Anyway, in my research (because i was asking the same question a few weeks ago) I've come across a couple of people who said it made their LOs sick. So it is possible. I also know lots of people who are able to take it with no problems though.

Can you stop it for a few days and make sure it's not a bug, then try again?

Oh, we have just been cutting off the top of the capsule and sprinkling directly over his food....do I need to mix it with hot water? He has only been on it 4 days but all of this started the same time he started the Nalcrom, might keep going for a few more days then if symptoms continue stop it.  God its all just so tough xxx

hi anita.my lo reacted to nalcrom with tummy pain and rashes to face although i think it is quite rare.we were also sprinkling it over food.havent retried with water yet.like you say it could be a coiincidental bug but so hard to tell.its just trial and error :(

I think the cutting of the capsule may be part of the problem, Shah tole me to sepeate the two halves, put the powder on to a spoon add boiling water and then suck up with a syringe. It tastes like soap! Anyway that is beside the point my little one reacted to it with a rash round the mouth and struggling to swallow. His sleep seemed worse too. I suspect we are about to have another try with it though, as ketotifen alone is not keeping him stable. Though it has helped his night time sleep massively, which it should given the huge dose that he is on!
Hope that helps. Xx
Anything is possible with these little refluxers, but don't rule out 'the bug' and write off nalcrom straight away.
My LO is very sensitive and tolerates it just fine, and I think it's a really useful medicine for damping down reactions and inflammation.
It's a gentle medicine and has practically no side effects which is why it's usually one of the first ones tried.
Maybe leave it a week or so and then trial it again
Xx
