LittleRefluxers

Hi,

Sorry I haven't really posted for ages, but there hasn't really been much to report! Morgan's still having "flare-ups" a few times a day and we're pretty much at our wits end.... I've forgotten what sleep is!!!

We had to take her in this morning for blood tests and to get a stool sample. All I can say is HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!! This is the second blood test she's had done now (last one was a few months ago) and it was so traumatic... for all of us. This time they put cream on the backs of her hands to numb them (which they didn't do last time!) but to be honest, I don't think it made the slightest bit of difference.

Even with me, Leigh, a nurse and the doctor holding her down, she still almost managed to pull the butterfly needle out of her hand - there was blood absolutely everywhere. And scream.... well.... she let rip big time, although still not as bad as when she's having a Silent Reflux flare-up.

The doctor's sending her blood to test for all sorts. From what I can remember: U&E, Creatinine, Liver Function, Thyroid Function, Full Blood Count, Ferritin, Coeliac screen, Immunoglobulins, Bone, and there were a couple more which I can't remember.

We also gave them a stool sample, but typically her nappy this morning was the most normal she's had for months (although still not "normal" iykwim!) but as soon as we got home, she did one of her typical mucousy, sulphury-stinking, runny ones (Sorry TMI!). Grrrrr!!

Anyway, she's back on Monday 14th for a Barium Swallow & Meal (not looking forward to that either!!) and then we see the consultant on the 23rd for all the results.

Don't get me wrong, I hope to God there's nothing wrong with her, but part of me really hopes they find something, so we know WHY she's like she is and so we can do something about it.

Hope you're all well and your LO's are ok!

Hi, please see other posts about food allergies and intolerances, eosinophilia, Dr Shah etc. Blood tests will not show food intolerance or gut allergy to food. My kids have food intolerances or possibly eosinophilic conditions, but their blood tests are negative. Smelly gross pooh is one sign of gut intolerance to food. You should be going dairy and wheat free to start with to see if this makes a difference. You must be completely restrictive otherwise it will not help you to see if elimination of foods is going to help. Gut allergies give you stomach cramp, reflux, pain, blistering in the intestines, etc etc, bad sleep, vomiting, etc. Please see other posts for info! I don't know how old your child is, but they should be on a dairy free formula (neocate the only one). Do not try soya as most kids with gut allergies also intolerant to that. If on neocate already and dairy free, you should be looking at wheat and gluten as the next culprits.
