Hi Ladies, We have had an eventfull couple of days with my little refluxer being in hospital with bronchiolitis. Thankfully he is home now on inhalers.
My consultant came to see us today as we were due to see him on weds. He has told me to stop the zantac and has put Ryan on 5mg omezaparole. the nurse showed me how to dissolve the tablets etc but when i collected the script it is the liquid form and was told not to drop the bag as it is very expensive! Is this liquid stuff and better? As much as my GP makes me cross at times i dont want to cost extra for no real difference.
Also consultant said we are to stay on neocate for another 8 weeks and if no better to switch to soya formula. not sure how I feel about that.
Thanks Edel

I don't think the liquid stuff is better (though at £200 a bottle you'd hope so). It has a short shelf life so many people have found it loses effectiveness after 2 weeks and they are constantly having to get repeat prescriptions, plus it tastes nasty so I don't think it's any easier to give than the MUPs.
We've never had it, but feedback from the board is not overwhelmingly positive, it would seem hard to justify given how much more expensive it is.

I would be wary about switching to a Soya formula, if your child is demonstrating intolerances then Soya can be one of the worst, we have been told by Dr Shah to stay away from it completely at the mo.
Hope that helps xxxx

Permalink Reply by Laura Perks on February 22, 2012 at 14:40 Having tried both I would say the tablets are better too, though I thought the liquid *should* be. It's exactly that which makes me wonder if we gave up on omeprazole too soon. Just one of those things you find out from other more experienced reflux Mums.
I still have some tabs in our cupbaord and keep wanting to resort to them, but am holding out on the ketotifen for now :(
