Ladies advice on sleeping or lack of with a 16 month old

Hi ladies sorry about this especially since I haven't been on for ages (things started to improve a little :) ) well the title says it all. Paige is now 16 months and has never slept through the night since birth. She still wakes several times during the night screaming her little heart out whilst sitting bolt upright. Once you pick her up she will give you a huge burp or start hiccuping and either setlle again or as she has been doing the last few weeks screaming everytime you try and put her down to the point where she was sleeping standing up leaning against me as that was the best way she could be pain free.

We have tried all the wedges etc, her bed in currently on blocks so she has a certain degree of angle but it just doesn't seem enough it is getting to the point where we are looking at trying to get her big brothers carseat fitted into her cot at night, as she is still in a rear facing which I really don't want her to sleep in due to the fact she is starting to get too big for it and her neck ends up in a funny angle. So her big bros one is next best even though she is way too small for it but to sleep in she should be ok.

What I'm really asking is there any other way you ladies with older refluxers have found a way to ease the problem.

Paige may be 16months but the size of a 6 month old the food consumption of mouse. She has a suspected dairy allergy and soya intollerance which has only recently been taken seriously by our new gasto consultants. She is on omperazole & domperidone. She is good during the day but only naps for about 3/4hr if that then wakes screaming again, apart from that she is a happy soul.

We have been struggling along since her birth with either no sleep or very little sleep and it is taking its toll on all of us including her 2 1/2yr big brother who seems to get the short end of the stick with my temper (but that's a different story) and her screaming (they share a room).

Please ladies any advice as to how we can get more than 2 hours sleep on a good night would be more than welcome,as I haven't a clue totally run out of ideas here.

You poor things.
I don't really have much advice, you seem to be doing all you can. I just wondered what dose of omeprazole your lo is on? Surely if she's on the correct dose, she should be comfortable lying down to sleep. Maybe it needs increasing? Just a thought.
My son had/has severe silent reflux, since 4 weeks old, (17mths now) but since having the max amount of omeprazole he could for his weight, he has been able to be much more comfy lying down.
I know what you mean about the sleep deprivation - no wonder they use it as a form of torture!

Hope you can find the answer soon and your lo is happier.
Lol about the sleep bit I thought I had it bad with my son but he slept through from 10 days then came missy moo and one of them old consultants told me to try and nap when she does I asked have yhou had children the reply was no then she wondered why I almost fell of my chair laughing at her suggestion.
She is currently on 10mg of omperazole as she hasn't reached the next stage for it to go up she has only just reached 18lb.
We have consultant in a couple of weeks so maybe they can shed some light on what the heck is going on with her.

Good luck with your lo, hope he stays settled for you.

Hi ya Neet, my daughter now 2 years old (Also called Paige) was very much like your little one with the sleep, she would continual wake screaming and sobbing. Thankfully now she mostly sleeps through, but this has only been in the last 4 to 5 months.
At 14 months old she was diagnosed with a dairy intolarence and put on a total dairy free diet, things improved about 60%, but there was still some thing that made her uncomfi at night (day sleep was great), At 16 months old she was diagnosed as a Celiac. This changed every thing... She became a happy child day and night.
Although I have always thought the Omprozole to be a wonderful drug and has helped a lot, (still on 7ml) I think with some babies there sleep can be affected with it. My daughter sleeps better now its reduced.
can I just ask if she doesn't eat a lot, why is she on domperidone ???? Could she be uncomfi and full of wind at night due to the tummy being to empty??? Just a thought.
Hmm Belinda never thought of the domperidone adding to the night probs will ask my cons when I see him, thank you.

I'm pleased your little girl has finally started being a happy soul and enjoying herself. We had the celiacs (sp) test done a few months ago and it came back normal.
The cons we are under now thinks it has all to do with the dairy allergy which whilst we were under the last hospital went untreated. All they kept doing was pumping her full of drugs not geting to the source of the problem so her gullet is so badly burnt and hyper sensitive that she sees all food/milk as a big NO because it hurts her so much. In April she started on a dairy & soya free diet plus dropping all her other meds, which has prompted her to start eating but still not very much.

We shall have to wait, only just over a week till her next appointment

Thanks for the flicker of light at the end of this very long tunnel

Hi, sounds like your going through a really tough time. Sorry I dont have any magic answer to your sleep problems, if I had then I'd be using it on my son and probably make millions selling it! My son (Jacob) is 15 months and has never slept through the night either. He wakes several times crying and irritable and usually awake 3-4 hours at a time. He was diagnosed with severe reflux and cows milk protein intolerance at a few weeks old and spent many weeks in hospital being tube fed. He is now on 10ml omeprazole twice a day. I do wonder about your little one having domperidone as we were sent to a specialist in Oxford last year who told us it has never been proven to be successful and can make many little ones worse!? Jacob has refused to eat over the last few weeks but decided he wants milk during the night, so like having a new born again but I do anything for a couple of hours sleep. Took him to his peadiatrician today who is now sending him to Great Ormond Street for food sensitivity testing within the gut. Apparantly skin prick tests etc are not accurate at his age. He is going for some blood tests next week then expect we'll wait a while on an appointment but fingers crossed. I do sympathise with you as sleep depravation is a killer. I also have a 3 year old son, so makes it hard to stay calm and happy all day long when I just want to sleep!!! Anyway, hang in there.....it can only get better in time.

Love Jo (another shattered mummy of 2) x
Hi there I feel so sorry for you and your family . It must be so hard. I was wondering have you been offered fundoplication operation and your thoughts if any on it? Good luck and I hope you all get some sleep soon. Xx
