LittleRefluxers

hi, trying to progress my daughter from thick purees to lumpier food, she is 8 months, but everytime she gets anywhere near a lump or bites off a piece of finger food, she either spits it out or gags and vomits. is this common for refluxers??? we think the reflux was due to dairy intolerance. cant abide this gagging now too. its a battle most days to get her to take any solids so when it come flying back at you it is very soul destroying!! any advice would be great.

my daughter too gags at anything with lumps. so you know what i give her baby food smooth, my view is its taken this long to get to eat food with bits can wait, hope thats useful. also she is being referred to a speach and language therapist for this, ask for a referral, good luck.
thanks ann but actually in the last few weeks seems that lumps no longer a bit issue!! horrah!!!
hi sim, just wonedering how you got to the point of lumps not being a problem because my little girl is having the same prob. if she has anything with lumps or bites anything and it hits the back of her throat she gags and vomitts. if you could tell me the secret to your success?
there is no secret I'm afraid! we just kept trying with food that melted in the mouth and suddenly she was just fine with it! A drink of water also helps wash food down. things like the organix carrot stix, or the apple rice cakes are a favourite. anything too long like a chip was an issue at first. but she seems to know now not to shove it all in!! wasnt us, amelia figured it out herself! she is now 10 months so could just be that the gag reflex is desensitising? good luck
