Food%2520intol-alergic%2520baby.html
dear all.i found this website from oz?i think.it has some very interesting ideas on how allergies are caused and advice on how to treat them,i read it quickly late this night so i hope it is cosher.
in particular it keeps mentioning a latest theory that if an allergen is not totally removed from the diet it can cause more serious reactions later.
it suggests less food proteins are absorbed and cause potential problems if food is steamed not boiled then pereed .
it gives advice on how and what order to reintroduce food if on milk alone or very restricted diets.
what do you think?

I recommend you actually put the time aside and read it properly as the bit explaining the actual differences between allergies and intolerances was very useful. A lot of it I already knew (especially as a Biology teacher) but there were a few really good bits. I also liked how to introduce new foods.
Thanks,
H xx

Permalink Reply by jo on July 23, 2011 at 18:32 hi .i had my dietician appointment and she has suggested to me the possibility of salicylate intolerance.i just googled this and found this aussie website.i have found that the information from australia and nz regarding reflux etc seems to be much better than in uk.i dont know why but they seem better informed about it over there and they really seem to take it seriously...eg their guidelines are that every babe with reflux is given a trial of hypoallergenic formula/dairy free bf as first line before medication etc..
anyway i wish i had all this info when i started weaning.i would do things so differently.
there is really good info in the site re salicylate intolerance which they have a theory ( and they do keep saying it is ONLY a theory) can happen if a babe is continually exposed to a protein they are allergic to some immune systems can go into overdrive then they have problems with chemicals which are in other seemingly harmless fruit and veg, colourings ,preservatives etc
the dietician said.
jos worst reactions are with strawberries,grapes,raisins,tomatoes,....all very high in salicylate
his best foods are banana,pear,potato,squash,..very low salicylates
reacted to preservative in eye drops and calpol.(lots of medicines presevatives have salicylate so cheking these)
it may all be a coincidence but any little lead in this mystery is worth pursuing!
really hope it has helped.it helped me understand things a bit more..
