LittleRefluxers

My 16 week old has been diagnosed by a Consultant Paediatrican as having;
* Severe Silent Reflux (via a Barium Swallow)
* Milk Protein Intolerance
* An uncoordinated gut.

We have had a total nightmare and I wish that I had found your website sooner. My advice to anyone who suspects that their child is suffering should/must go to their GP and request to be seen by a Paediatrician. This is my second child but despite that I am still not following that 'mothers intuition' and I have now promised myself that from now on I will. No-one knows your child as well as you do and despite the diagnosis we have been given I know we have yet to find the cure.

I have spent the past 16 weeks looking into my daughters eyes as she screams with pain, lasting for anything up to 5 hours.

I was told it was colic, I gave her gripe water, dentinox, infacol.
I have massaged her, rocked her, rubbed her back, patted, sung, cried, sat her up, lay her down, changed her milk, smaller feeds, larger feeds, faster teats, breast feeding, bottle feeding everything apart from taking her back and to no avail.

Despite her trouble my child is smiling and wonderful and not at all miserable as some doctors have annoyingly claimed!

I had to give up breastfeeding as the first mouhtful of each feed would leave my daughter crippled in pain and her stomach sounded as though it was fizzing. She was diagnosed as having a milk protein intolerance and put on Nutramigen, which is a little easier to get her to feed.

We were prescribed Ranitidine which did nothing, and will shorlty be starting something else.

I have also started Cranial Osteopathy which was a little freaky.

I'd love to hear from you if you're in the same boat or have conquered this problem.

I am trying everything and would welcome any advice.

hiya my little boy who is 15 weeks old was diagnosed with silent reflux about 4 weeks ago by a consultant paediatrician, i too am going through a tough time he is my 1st child as well, he screams in pain and is very unsettled quite often. i went to see the normal gp about a week ago and he prescribed oliver the infant milk called enfamil a.r this seems to have helped upto now as he is drinking alot more than he has ever done before, do u know anything about weaning them early to maybe help silent reflux as i was thinking about doing this?
what other medicine have u been given as we had ranitidine and it didnt have any effect.
i totally understand how u feel, i wish there was a answer to solve silent reflux as people dont understand how awful it is and doctors try and fog u off with other diagnooisis when u know yourself what it is.
hope all is ok.
keep us updated with the new medicine
thanks
carly :)
Interested about your milk (Enfamil) as I've yet to try this milk, we have stuck to Nutramigen because Poppy wont take Neocate but it isn't ideal.

I started weaning about 3 weeks ago and it is the best thing I could have done. I'm keeping it very simple and as Poppy has a milk protein intolerance I have to check all the baby foods for added extra's. I started off with just a few spoonfuls of baby rice made up with her formula. Then I gave her apple puree, once a day and then increased to twice a day. Now she has a little pot at each feed twice a day. I add baby rice to this to give it more bulk and to thicken it up and Poppy also has a drink of water from a training cup. Poppy does cry but this is due to me not being quick enough with the next spoonful, once this has passed, Poppy chats and smiles and is just positively gorgeous.

My Paed, advised early weaning and when we saw her last week she was pleased with what we had chosen to do, I know it's against 'normal practice' but my child can't read normal practice and at least we have two happy feeds a day.

Good luck with it all.

i started weaning my 16 week old 3 weeks ago (paed knew and discussed) it has def helped him. have started off slow but he is alot happier. Incidentally my hv said avoid apple as this is acidic and could make him worse. Ive just added a discussion as we are having a nightmare as he isnt responding to any meds!
