Lily s domperidone and ranitidine were increased yesterday and since shes been behaving very irritable, unsettled and has already woken 6 times tonight screaming. Has anyone experienced this, and if so did they settle after a few days? She has had a massive increase from 1.5 ml x 3 daily to 4ml x 3 daily and ranitidine from 0.3 to 2ml x 2 daily. She has also been wide awake today and hardly slept at all, even though I could tell she was exhausted, even a 3 mile walk only got her to sleep for 10 mins!! The only positive at the mo is that it has helped her go the loo comfortably.I think I do remember her going a bit wacky the first time it ever increased, but in was in the early days so not sure if it was the meds or just her reflux in general. Shes only been increased to this dose now as my silly GP got the calculation wrong and my Paed corrected them yesterday after I questioned it when I noticed babies on here were on a much higher dose x

Noah was put back on domperidone recently and it made him very agitated and almost hyper. Followed by a massive crash at bedtime where he became hysterical.

Gastro paed agreed it was the domperidone so possibly that is affecting Lily. If you want to keep givin her it maybe trying increasing the dosage from your original dose to the new dose over the space of a week and see if that helps her accept the new dosage.

Thanks Gillian. Im damned with it and without it! She cant cope without it and is bugged with it. *SIGH* If you dont mind me asking did your Paed say that the irritability can subside after a while, after theyve become used to the dose? x

He said no and agreed we shouldn't use it, but for us we weren't upping the dose we were just starting it.

If Lily has been ok on it previously maybe a slow increase to the new dose will let her tolerate it.
xx

Thanks Gillian , shes seems a little better today, so Im hoping she does settle. We had a bad night last night and it took ages to settle her each time. I should know over the next couple of days whether it is the domperidone. Ive downed it a bit and plan to increased slowly. Fingers crossed xx

Hi Alison, my Lo is also on Ranitidine and Domperidone. 1ml Ranitidine x 3 daily and 2 Ml Domperidone x 3 daily. He is constantly on the go, needs constant distractions and cries a help of a lot. He never seems relaxed in the day like a normal baby. its so tiring and I feel so Sorry for him. Maybe it is the meds as well as reflux. Really don't like the Domperidone, its given him a bad tummy.
My LO reacts badly to the medications. We gave up the Gaviscon and ranitidine and when they wanted to up the omeprazole I decided no more of that either. It's been just over two weeks now and he's no worse off the medication than when he was on it. No better either, but I'm really hesitant now to try any more meds, the side effects are as bad as the reflux!

Hi all,

Well good news, after a few days, Lily seems to have settled on the higher dose. I hate domperidone, but she just cant cope without it. For the first time ever, its been helping her bowels a little, so thats a positive. Still a bit agitated, needs constant distractions and her sleeping has gone a bit haywire, but deffo helped improve her reflux a little at night. She only woke once, which is a miracle! Cant wait til shes running about, in the hope that the extra movement gets her bowel moving/reflux knocked in the head.x
