Hiya,
After managing to keep off it for so long, it seems I will finally have to give my DS domperidone. He is now 13 months and isn't at all good. Has had a really bad couple of months with no sign of getting better with lots of sick and lots of constipation so domperidone seems to be the way forward. Couple of questions though...
How do they put weight on if the food is passed through quickly? Are they hungry a lot of the time if they always have an empty stomach? My boy gags and brings up food as he is eating it. Will domperidone help this?
I know these are questions for my consultant really but our next appointment isn't until the beginning of January so I will need to go to the GP for the prescription. And last time they got the doseage of ranitadine completely wrong so I want to go armed with information first!
Thanks all
xx

Hi ya, I asked the same thing about weight cause I was worried, but there really was nothing to worry about. Every thing they eat still goes through the same process but just a little quicker, the body takes out what it normally would before getting rid of the rubbish, I found Domperidone great stuff. Can make there poo a little softer than norm but at least there was no consipation.
My daughter eats for england, loves her food, but has lots of dirty nappies as a consequence, I always blamed the domperidone, but she has been off it for a couple of months now (16 months old now), but she still eats none stop.
I cant answer the one about sick while eatting but when i started my daughter on it after a couple of days she stopped being sickie??????.
I use to have Ranitadine but found it completely useless, as it has to be weight ajusted (lots) and with reflux they dont always gain like normal babies, (way to complicated), I was given Omeprozole and found this lots better, she still takes 10mg once a day.
Hiya,

My dd has been on domperidone for about 3 months now (she's 9 months old), and it hasn't affected her weight gain at all. In fact last time she put on 1.5lb in 2 weeks, which is the biggest weight gain she's had in about 4 months! She does poo a lot more now, mostly after each meal and I assume that's because it's all being 'pushed' through quicker. She does get hungry quicker, but now I think it's just the association - she has the meds so she knows that its time to eat! - As for the gagging, i don't really know. My dd was constantly being sick after every milk feed or meal, but since starting the domperidone she's only been sick a handful of times.
Thanks Marnie and Belinda,
I rang the hospital in the end yesterday and they gave me an appointment today with the consultant! So impressed with the service.
Anyways he did give us Domperidone. And tested for Coeliac disease so hoping its not that. Its useful to have success stories for Domperidone - DS hasn't kept a single thing down all day and I gave him some with his tea and it stayed down! Hooray! Fingers crossed he sleeps a little better tonight. I don't mind about more poo at the moment as he is always constipated so hopefully it'll help him a bit. Hope it continues to work like it did for your guys.
Thanks again
