LittleRefluxers

Hi there, my 8 month old lo is over the acid reflux and no longer on pain but vomits A LOT! So...we have been prescribed Domperidone on its own to help this. I was wondering if anyone has any comments about it as I don't want to shove things down her throat if I don't have to!

Hi Shona, i know of one mum who's baby was on it for two and a half years, and she swears it was brilliant. However for my daughter she just had loads of screaming episodes. I think each baby is diferent. xx
Hi

Domperidone works for my daughter really well, she has silent reflux but it really helps keep the food down. I do notice the difference if I don't give it to her.
Thanks for the advice. My daughter seems to no longer be in pain but throws up (regurgitates) constantly. We already use CArobel so was worried this might be too much for her. Good to know it works!
Hi hun - with my LO Domperidone has made little if no difference but it also has not had any negative effects either
Thanks for that.
Hi Shona,

My little girl has been on domperidone for over 2 years now along with several other meds. If I am honest for a while I was unsure if it was doing anything until I tried to take her off it. The great thing about domperidone is it isn't just for the sickness it helps with the bloating and general queasiness that reflux babies/children get. All reflux kids are different but you will not really know if it has any effect unless you try. It is quite mild and the dosage can be played around with on advise from your peadiatrician.

Definately worth a go!!

Hope this hel[ps.
Thanks. I am waiting for another paed visit but will give it a go if they think its a good idea. She seems to be sick more one day and less the next so its not straight forward. Glad your little one is good.
I think it is truly awful! It has dairy in it. My daughter did not sleep a wink on it and I think it gave her awful tummy cramp. She was on it for five months and they were the worst five months of my life! She vomited all the time and vomited food which was very scary. Actually she was completely allergic to dairy and as soon as that and other things came out of her diet she stopped vomiting and gagging. Literally overnight. She had an endoscopy at one year showing blistering in her insides (lymph nodes had swollen and blistered). This apparently caused the vomiting. So then she came off dairy. I would advise neocate first and a dairy free diet to see the effect. Also wheat, gluten and soy common culprits. Gut allergies are different to blood allergies and are not detectable by blood or skin prick testing. See all the posts on Dr Shah at Great Ormond Street and Eosinophilic conditions. 50 p[er cent of kids with reflux actually have gut allergies to food and pollen. My daughter is now doing brilliantly, but she is nearly two. She only started eating properly two months ago when I completely cut out all the culprit foods and she was put on an anti histamine by Dr Shah. Good luck
Thats sounds terrible - I 'm so glad she is fine now poor little thing! I have decided not to give her it for now, she seems to be less sick and loving her food and sleeping well so don't want to 'rock the cradle'! Thanks for your reply
No problem! Have you considered neocate and Dr Shah? It really is worth seeing him if your baby vomits alot as they can develop something called oral aversion when they don't want to eat and it's hard work reversing it (from my experience).
Hi,

My little one is now 12 weeks and was prescribed domperidone at 8 weeks as the gaviscon and ranitidine weren't helping much and Gaviscon was making her constipated. She has silent acid reflux, not vomitty. they said the domperidone might have helped push her food through her stomach quicker so may help constipation, it did this but she got crippling stomach cramps because of this and used to draw up her legs in pain. We took her back to the paediatrician and they took her off it. since then no drawing up of the legs. Apparently this affects a few babies but it may help you're baby to stop vomiting as it makes the food pass quicker, just watch out for the drawing up of knees
Hi
My baby now 10month is on that and ranitidine, ozemprazole, and others. Sometimes I think it is no good but he has frequent bouts of chest infections so that is why we leave it off for a few days and he isnt much different without it. One thing I have noticed went to give him calprofen due to high temp and the inserts advise not giving it if in domperidone? still yet to find out why. Sorry not much help but all babies are different.!
