LittleRefluxers

I have read something today that makes total sense,

Theresa has left a blog that makes total sense for my daughter!! My daughter who is now 8 month old was diagnosed finally at 4 months after being through the usual rubbish of colic etc, they also thought she was dairy intollerant, after trying 11 milks, gaviscon and ranitadine, they finally put her on omeprazole and things settled down a little, she would never take any of the milks so has stayed on sma and 7.5ml of omeprazole.

Anyway my daughter has never had a problem sleeping or being on her back, infact she is happy when lying down (not normal for gerd).

The only problem my daughter has is the drinking of the milk, i have sat there hour after hour trying to force the milk down her, and only taking between 10oz and 20oz per day, she has never put on weight properly and dropped from the 75th centile to the 25th and was 7lb 12 at birth and on last weigh in only weighs 15lb  ( 3 weeks ago) weigh in day tomorrow, not getting my hope up!!

Anyway after lots of rambaling, i believe that a vitamin b12 deficiancy has the same symptons of gerd, the thing is i was vitamin b12 deficiant in pregnancy and wonder if  this could be transferred to my baby?? My daughter also has quite olive skin yet me, my hubby and my 3 year old son are very pale, and vitamin b12 deficiancy causes a tinged yellow skin, gerd and failure to thrive.

I am seeing my h/v tomorrow for a weigh in, and im wondering if i should ring my pead or go to my gp about this?? i dont want to be treated like a nurotic mother again!!

What do u think should i demand a blood test, can you demannd one??

HELP

Hi Sian
I've looked at the post you're speaking about a few times. Personally I don't think Nicole has this, I've kind of wondered what to make of it, and to be honest I don't really understand it.
However, Cerys sounds like a different story. Like you said Cerys doesn't display classic symptoms of reflux other than the milk drinking, whihc to be honest from what I'm reading is not just a symptom of reflux but can be other things too. I think the fact you had the deficiency whilst pregnant could be a link and I think it is definately something worth mentioning. I'm not sure the hv would be the best one to mention it too, only because I beleive that very few of them have any knowledge of reflux, never mind vitamin deficiencies. Perhaps if you could see a gp, I think demanding the test may be the best way, and if you can't get any joy with GP speak to Paed.
I would like to hear what a GI Paed would make of it, I think that all these little bubs have lots of different symptoms to all have reflux and there's nothing to say that some of them don't have a B12 deficiency - what sometimes worries me with reflux is that it seems that all bubs who have any issues of any nature with feeding are now being labelled with reflux (most of the time without any tests to confirm), it's kind of like back to the colic days where they were labelled with a brand without any form of testing being done to confirm and possibly a number of these babies do have a vitamin deficiency.
Let me know how you get on
