Hi Guys - just had to say thanks to K Smith as I was given Carobel yesterday and feeding my LO has turned from an absolute nightmare to reasonable and from 1.5 hours long for 2 oz every 3 hours to 30 mins for 4-5oz every 3 hours - now I know its only been a couple of days but this is such a difference that I can't help but hope this is the answer for my LO - and I can't recommend it enough - my paed told me its not often used anymore as its a bit outdated as a treatment - well I don't know why as all the modern treatments gaviscon, ranitidine and domperidon have failed to have the same effect for my LO
Please keep your fingers crossed for me that this continues to work so well xxx
You are very welcome and I am so pleased that you have seen some improvement so far. Like I had mentioned before, my GP too said its not used as much these days and it should be. It has worked and still is working wonders for us and I would reccommend it to anyone who has a baby with reflux.
Hi hun a little up and down - milk consumption overall not changed now but the stress of feeding has def gone down a little so overall pleased with it - thanks for the recommendation hun xx
Hurray! So pleased to hear that carobel has worked for you - I think I started a similar discussion a couple of months ago because I was amazed that even though it sorted out my eldest daughter noone would prescribe it for my youngest, so we insisted and she is now great! We have had to use Omeprazole too but the carobel is definately a winner! Keep spreading the word.
Hi can i ask how much of the carobel you use in milk? My lo was started on it last week after i was told off for putting baby rice in bottle (it worked). I was to only put one scoop in 7 oz bottle and could up it to 2 scoops and at most 3, but he has went back to bringing up most of the bottle between every feed. I have went to 4 scoops cause according packet you can put 1 scoop per 30mls, is this right? and if so why was i only told to go up to 3 scoops? i'm confused
I personally am using 1.5 scoops in 5 oz with gaviscon as well however yes you are right you can use 1 scoop per oz maximum - I was also using baby rice before I found this - experiment up to the 1 scoop per oz to find the consistency that suits your little one - the only thing you need to be aware of is that if you use the max dosages to try and get your LO to take either some water or add some extra fruit/veg to diet if weaned to stop them getting constipated - then if you get no success then go back to the rice - whatever works for your LO in my opinion with reflux - somehow we have to get through it using whatever works for us till they grow out of it and good luck
Hey guys its a while since I was on. My little lad has just turned one and is still on his Ranitidine and still has the magic Carobel.
I have to be honest though, it sounds as though some of you aren't using enough Carobel in the milk. When we first went on the Carobel, my son would take 8 scoops in an 8 ounce bottle. This stopped the sicking up immediately!!!!!!! Over time we have reduced the carobel in his milk as his reflux improves (slowly)! He now only has 2-3 scoops in an 8oz bottle and sometimes we don't even bother.
1,5 scoops in a 5ounce bottle will make no difference to the thickness of the milk, it needs more.
We found Carobel to be fantasitc but you really have to slap it in and not be afraid. Maybe GP suggested 3 scoops to begin with to see how things go and to increase or decrease as neccessary. As mentioned below, my boy used to have 8 scoops in an 8oz bottle....................not a spit up in sight, and believe my boy was sick all day long! In my experience Carobel has been great for keeping the milk down but you need to use enough of it to thicken it.
Yes I agree hun - we were lucky in that as my LO had silent reflux so was never sick and using a little carobel was just enough to thicken the milk to stop it being refluxed back into her throat - the thing I loved about Carobel was that you can adjust it yourself to suit your LO without the risk of constipation which you get if you thicken milk with baby rice
