Hello all - a quick question - does calpol upset reflux/cmpi/allergy dairy/soy (covering all angles as still not really 100% sure). The little man has a bad cold and the calpol seems to be making him worse. If it does not help what can I use instead? He was a wake for 3 hours last night...and then my 2 year old woke bright and early - I am so tired...
Totally melted down on my mum yesterday...
Thanks

Hi. Thomas seemed to react badly to Calpol. We now use Disprol (buy from Superdrug) as it is colourless and banana flavoured. Superdrug also sell a childrens soluble paracetamol which is the same Disprol brand, but I have not tried it yet. I have used calprofen when I was desperate for something to help with teething, and I didn't think he reacted, but I have been told by a doctor only to use it if they are eating ok.

Just a tip but I've found she tollerates meds better if given half way through porridge,(thats the only time we can give her the antibiotics) not sure if it's the timing as first meal of the day or the fact that it's so heavy it take some bringing back up lol

Permalink Reply by Veronica Payne on February 8, 2012 at 22:20 Thank you for all your replies - we got one of the alternatives suggested - but can't think of its name right now... he seemed happier anyhow- whether it was calpol or being poorly who knows!!! Thanks all

Rosie is ok with the actual Calpol brand sugar and colour free version but not with Tesco's sugar and colour free - very strange, that one makes her hyper and if she wakes up she is wide eyed and bouncing about, takes me ages to get her back to sleep. teething gel has similar effect too,
Hi
Not as far as I know. My GP prescribed it at 3 weeks old as he was in such a state and he's quite knowledgable about reflux. I also use the nurofen and when desperate 2.5ml of medised. I guess keep a diary/record of when he takes it and what reaction he has and don't give it a problem. Typical eh, supposed to help not make worse :(
Interesting though everyones responses and different children. Great to know there's some alternatives eh
Good luck hope you find something that helps
